steve_m Posted February 9, 2003 Posted February 9, 2003 Sooty, who's done the mapping and which turbo are you using ? Sounds really interesting. Quote
Sooty Posted February 10, 2003 Posted February 10, 2003 On this engine I’m using a modified Garrett VNT20 unit with 360deg thrust bearings and slightly trimmed wheels, peak continuous boost will be set for 30psi with 35psi gated capping. Whenever I build an engine up like this I always do the initial mapping myself via an ECU emulator from a PC as long as it’s still on the bench, once it’s in the car I normally go down to Superchips and give them the profile I’ve created and get them to fine tune it on their rolling road. So far with this engine I’ve only completed the intake, head and fuelling systems, the reason it was on the bench dyno was because my mate who is making up the manifolds is a bit of a perfectionist and likes to try a few designs before he’ll finally commit. It’s all about to get stripped down again soon as the block and pistons are going off to be ceramic coated after a little machining to lower the compression ratio, the head and valves have already been done. hilux Posted February 10, 2003 Posted February 10, 2003 It's BHP that sells cars But torque that wins races I`m afraid that I have to agree...... Coat on and gone............................ Quote
Sooty Posted February 11, 2003 Posted February 11, 2003 Just in case there are still some people who don’t think these things can be raced competitively. Some of you may be aware of the SCCA Pro Rally Championships in America (US version of the British Rally Championships), but did you know that the 2002 Production class was won by a VW diesel? I’ve seen this car running and considering the series limitations on engine tweaking it packs one #### of a kick (although I could be a little based as I’m a parts sponsor of it ) Short article The car's build Austria is one of the first countries to allow both petrol and diesels to race in the same series (under 2ltr) in it’s Touring Car Championships, so guess what won it? Short article Don’t worry I’ll shut up now I suspect this tread may have had enough pro diesel comments for some people Quote
