Scotty72 Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 Recently did blyton track day and halfway through the day I developed some quite harsh brake judder which gets worse the hotter the disks get. Car has only done 1500 miles from new. How do I check if the disks are fooked? I have checked all nuts & bolts are tight to rule out any play. Any advice? Quote
Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 You could check for disc run out with a dial gauge or it could be pad deposits on the disc faces. Is it still doing it now too with normal road use? I assume you cooled them down after each track session, though it sounds like it was first noticed on track ? Which front brakes have you got? I've got the 4 pot hi spec ones with solid discs. Mine have performed fine with 3 visits to 3 sisters track, although it's not the biggest/fastest track. Quote
BugMan Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 Might be worth checking you used Copper grease on the back of the pad's, as I have heard of a similar issue where is was not used? Quote
AdamR Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 It will be pad deposits. Give the discs a scrub over with some harsh sandpaper, then bed back in again. Quote
TAFKARM Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 Friction material from the pad on the disc, nothing to worry about Quote
TAFKARM Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 Beaten to it! Follow Adams advice! But I'd just drive through it... Quote
Terryathome Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 Google it, and understand what you might have to look at. This is the best site I have found. http://www.apecbraking.co.uk/Resources/TechniciansGuides/Understanding-Brake-Judder-and-Preventative-Steps.aspx Quote

I think when we met at GBS in ollerton you mentioned that we had the same calipers but I have grooved and vented disks. I don't know what pads I have fitted either! Image is of the stamp on the rear of calipers. Is there any Markings on pads to distinguish what they are? Quote
Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 My calipers are these: https://parts.westfield-sportscars.co.uk/suspension-braking/brakes-calipers-discs?product_id=928 The part number on the back of the front pads is: Quote
Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 Give the discs a good clean with abrasive paper and come for a run in the peaks tomorrow to check operation? Quote
TAFKARM Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 It def won't be warped discs after that Blyton day - it was far so wet my brakes barely got warm! Quote

Scotty72 Posted October 28, 2017 Author Posted October 28, 2017 Will try rubbing them down in the week to see if that helps. The drive to cadwell should bed them in a bit 1 Quote
