Maurici- CleaR Motorsport Posted October 21, 2017 Author Posted October 21, 2017 thanks @Arm but in that case, will stick with my LSD that is in good nick. well. I´m going to hear your experience here. But, in my gearing chart, 4.7 is going to make 132mph at 8000RPm (where I have my soft cut setted). This gearing and this tope speed, makes sense for me in most of the tracks I do use (anglesey, blyton, oulton park) and perfect for any sprint course. Appart of making the car more thriling to use because of the more gear changes and the actual use of the forth gear... but... that is the theory I have in my head... given my reasons, why you think is too low? PLease, enlight me as I don´t want to spend 800 pounds to find I was wrong.
Maurici- CleaR Motorsport Posted October 21, 2017 Author Posted October 21, 2017 My gearing is: 2.83 // 1.81//1.26//1//0.87 with the 3.92 diff speeds at 8000rpm are: 48.7//76.1//109.4//137.8//158.4 With an hipotetical 4.7; 40.6//63.5//91.2//114.9//132.1 WIt a 4.4, just to keep the comparision: 43.4//67.8//97.4//122.8//141.1 (table attached to make it easier)
Arm Posted October 21, 2017 Posted October 21, 2017 First is now too low with a 4.7. That engine will easily pull a 50 mph first and still have more torque at the back wheels than available grip. In fact 2nd is more like it. Its always a compromise and Id suggest a low final drive compromises first too much and it wont be useable.
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted October 21, 2017 Posted October 21, 2017 Some Ford Scorpios like this shape came with 4.1 and 4.27 diff ratios but 7.5" https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=ford+scorpio&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjAt9ewk4LXAhWNYlAKHRNoBC4Q_AUICigB&biw=1280&bih=683#imgrc=TBWCi_wcB5U0FM:&spf=1508603877740
Terry Everall Posted October 21, 2017 Posted October 21, 2017 4.1 has proved to be the optimum diff for XE engines and a decent gearbox with the correct ratios including first . Most popular is 2.39 first gear but even a 2.04 is fine
