darve Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 Makes you wonder how some people get by in life Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 The frightening thing is, that’s not the first time I’ve seen a picture of a brake rotor in that state, either! Truely terrifying. Quote
Thrustyjust Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 Lots of people need to be removed off the road. So many people dont get their cars serviced or have any idea what to look out for , to keep their cars safe for others sharing the roads. One of my neighbours is on year 5 on his ageing mondeo , without servicing it. Says its not worth it. MOT told him he needed discs and pads, so changed them, but thats it. Quote
Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 that's not just happened either, I bet they've done some miles like that! Quote
Sparkymart Posted September 28, 2017 Author Posted September 28, 2017 I'd like to know when he last had a MOT , even if it was a year ago and on the limit then he would have still had to go some to get them like that Quote
Kit Car Electronics Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 Pah, it's only half worn, plenty of life on the other side Quote
Ian Podmore Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 Even better cooling than having them drilled. Quote
Steve (sdh2903) Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 I saw a pic somewhere of a car presented for mot with a rear hub with the caliper totally missing . The mind boggles Quote
Lyonspride Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 Part of the reason vehicles become this unroadworthy is people being scared of getting work done on their car for fear of getting ripped off. Quote
Howsafe Workwear and Safety Equipment Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 looks ok to me Quote
congorobot Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 he's just converting from vented to single disks 1 Quote

I have never come across that in all my years in the motor trade and there are many approved schemes that are independently inspected to keep garages honest. I have seen almost every thing from paper sills to pads fitted wrong way around and pads so badly worn that they have dropped out of the caliper so that the piston is braking on the disc and every time when you ask if they had heard a noise the answer is always no. Never mind if the wheel is being wrenched out of their hands. People are stupid and for most a car is just transport from A-B it is a problem when things go wrong and they think as they are only doing short journeys they can get away with it. But far more dangerous are the bodgers, people who know it all but know nothing and do repairs badly and dangerously. I did have one where the brake drum shattered due to a sticking wheel cylinder broken down on the side of the road, he had an excuse as when I asked him why he hadn't heard the noise,? He was deaf!
