Crossflow offer

Morning guys

I have been offered another crossflow as a spare but really don't know enough on how much things are worth.

The guy rebuilt it a year ago for his rallying cortina but sold the car. It has been bored and liners added. It's 1700 but has 1300cc pistons and bigger rings to give a higher compression.

The head has the biggest valves that can be fitted.

He wants £400 for it

Is it worth it??

Many thanks

My answer is a question.

Do you need an engine now or are you likely to needing a replacement in the near future?

If the answer is yes then it probably is a realistic price but if the answer is no it will be dead money sitting in your garage as an ornament.

If you do suffer total engine failure you might decide to change the engine to something else anyway.

Another point, would it be in a suitable state of tune, cams and compression ratio ect. for your use.

Any chance and space you have for collecting a spare engine is good. A modified crossflow, regardless of having been sleeved , is 'definately' worth more than what he wants, So I would get it bought and stuffed under the bench in the garage !! They are getting short on supply now and unless you pay crazy money for new castings, are only going to go up in value.

I would agree with this, so if money and space not a problem..........!

BTW If you do not purchase it I also know another member looking for a replacement for his ageing crossflow who would be interested in it!

And another one! Given the chance I'd have a spare.

Just count it as a pension plan I collect crossflow bits because a) I run a crossflow and b) stuff is only going up in value
