Peter Robinson Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 After a bit of fast running yesterday I had coolant all over the front of the engine bay and after a bit of investigation seems the water pump seals have gone with water coming out of the hole at the bottom of the pump. That's was the easy bit, removed the pump and I have been looking on the Burton Power web site for replacement, now the one as far as I can make out is - http://www.burtonpower.com/water-pump-ford-x-flow-ohv-kent-711m-rwd-qcp730.html But the one that was on the car with a home made shim Now I'm guessing that the pump off the car is - http://www.burtonpower.com/water-pump-pre-x-f-x-flow-681f-1967-70-qcp181.html So the engine number is MK15602 so that's a June 1972 Engine from a Escort which bring me to believe it should have the QCP730 fitted, any idea's fella's? Thrustyjust Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 Might have been a fiesta XR2 pump you had on there, as they had to squeeze it in the car. Just get the Escort one and see how it lines up. You may need to just bin the shim. 1 Quote
Phil J Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 I have just measured a water pump exactly the same dimensions as the Burton xflow one (first picture on your post) as I have just replaced it, like for like, and it measures 89mm for mounting face on engine to mounting face of the pulley. Hope that is of help to you. Quote
Peter Robinson Posted September 24, 2017 Author Posted September 24, 2017 With the mount plate it 91mm so I guess that's the one, I do wish I had not bought this car! impulse I should have waited. Nothing that can't be fixed I suppose :-) I never saw the water bottle as an oil catch can, the head gasket going and the cracks in the jell coat. I still love it tho :-) Quote
TAFKARM Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 Water bottle catch cans are lightweight! 1 Quote
Vogalogue Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 I fitted one like the second one over the weekend, I can measure the old one if it helps? -all lined up fine. the only issue I had was coolant seeping through the fitting threads (despite using PTFE Tape) Used Loctite grey gasket seal on the threads and it was perfect. Grizzlee Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 The second pump in the picture was designed for a viscous fan hence the difference in dimension for the pulley. Rest of the pump is the same just the coupling and position Quote
