markg Posted February 6, 2003 Posted February 6, 2003 got five mots to do this week! this morning i took the bosses triumph stag in! the test was pre-booked for 11 am ! the old certificate doesnt expire until the 13th feb! the car passed the test no problem! on the way home, west mercia police had set up one of their camera vans that have plate recognition and speed camera poking out of it, 400 yards down the road the blue lights come on and they pull me in for no road tax the tax expired last sept. and the sorn thingy was sent to the dvla. i explained that i had just been for mot test and that i thought you dont need tax to drive to or from a pre-booked test! they said that as the old certificate hadnt yet expired then the vehicle could have been taxed! the car gets taxed for six months in the summer and is garaged in winter ! seemed very very petty to me! cant the coppers find something useful to do? brianm Posted February 6, 2003 Posted February 6, 2003 I cannot believe that you could get a ticket for that, you were inside the months pre-grace allowed for the MOT and I doubt anyones ever heard of that interpretation of the law before. Post it on pistonheads, there's quite a few helpful copper enthusiasts, and a JP or 2 on there, see what they say Brian. Quote
markg Posted February 8, 2003 Author Posted February 8, 2003 thanks brian but i dont think that passing myself off as a pistonhead will carry much weight in court you know what the fundraising effort for the police is like very informative website and thanks for the help! but basically they will welcome my latest contribution to tony and georges war fund or asylum seeker! new car fund! hope coventry city council has enough council tax to fund driving lessons and cars for all the asylum seekers ! dont want to be accused of being racist do we? markg Posted February 9, 2003 Author Posted February 9, 2003 thanks brian, spoke to a traffic nuisance at the local copshop when i took the producer in, he said that he didnt think that the dvla would take it any further but if they did i should write back with the number of the test station, and a covering letter explaining the circumstances! so i rang the test station and told them what happened and to expect the dvla to contact them! looks like it will be ok! thanks again mark Quote
