Captain Colonial Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 So... I'm currently out of order with a broken left ulna, generally a miserable and grumpy so and so to be around while it heels. Just after 7 this morning, I hear a dull *THUMP* outside and down the street. This is not unusual as I live in a busy main road near a badly designed junction that seems to magnetically attract brain-dead and idiotic drivers who like to meet at high speed on a spontaneous basis. These days I don't make an effort to investigate unless blues and twos folllow, as they did a couple of years ago when a drunken young driver managed to kill three of his mates by going backwards into a tree at 60 mph about 100 yards down the street. No blues and twos so I stayed indoors, although I was puzzled why the street was now devoid of traffic but also devoid of smashed cars when I looked out the window. I thought nothing of it until I went out later and about 50 yards to the east, I was greeted by an unusual sight. The house on the corner has off-street parking in front of it, with an entrance facing the street with two six foot high brick pillars... ...or should I say one pillar... The Mercedes did not reverse into the pillar. A car overshot the junction and hit the pillar, knocking it on to the back of the parked Mercedes. Not a nice way for the owner to wake up. 1 Quote
MK11 Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 Presumably, someone with a lorry has clouted the pillar about 2'6" up and this has knocked the thing over. You can see damage and missing plaster from the edge of the pillar in the photos. I will also take a guess that they "didn't notice" and drove off. The new Mercedes looks like it may get written off, IIRC damage to the roof and pillar like that is not a simple fix. Quote

It was certainly a good trick as that pillar is set back from the street by about 15' or so, and not in a straight line from the junction. My thoughts as well about it being written off, as soon as I saw the C pillar I thought "game over". Quote
Thrustyjust Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 I think the words Gap Insurance comes to mind. Its only a car and no blood was spilt. A colleague the other day had a chavvy corsa up her backside on a road last week. It overtook her on a blind bend and had a head on with a 17 plate Volvo XC60. Woman had the car a week. Wrote both cars off. No one was dead and she was saying her husband would kill her for the car. If it was me, I would be so happy that my family were alive and get another Volvo. Cant believe you live there Mr X Chair, far too posh. Is that a box in a picture thats your home Quote

I'm so posh that during our local sports day, we have a Chauffeur's Race in which my man does quite well. 2 Quote

He was old and wrinkly and handing out badges at Stoneleigh when I met him.............. Quote
