Hi All,

I've managed to have a better look at the leak today, there's a dent and a small crack in the sump which explains the oily puddle on the floor. Apologies if this is a stupid question but is it repairable or am I better to purchase a new one?

Thanks in advance,

Paul

Bet its an aluminium one. Yes they can be welded up, it's just finding the right guy to do it. One of the problems is getting it clean from the old oil as it affects the welding. Preping the weld usually gets most of it out.

Good luck

At least you found it Paul ! Yes, its hopefully repaireable, but you will have to remove it before getting it welded up. Its not a tricky job, just a few bolts and it 'should' come off. I also on a previous car had an additional skid plate put on , like a ski , to protect it. Have you a photo of the sump?

I've taken the easy option and dropped it off at a local garage, they're able to get it back to me tomorrow. I did want the satisfaction of sorting it myself but also wanted it back on the road asap whilst we have decent (ish) weather. The idea of having a skid plate makes sense, I'll speak with them and see whether it's something they can do :)

Thanks for all your help, much appreciated.

The crack will need opening up a bit to get it nice and clean and oil free, carbide cutter to open it up.

I would be welding it inside and out too to make sure it was right :)

All done, I collected the car last night and everything seems great :) However the wife has taken it out for a drive with my 4yr old and I'm left at home trawling the forum for inspiration :suspect:

That sounds a easy fix then Paul. As for letting the wife out in it, you will be listening out forthe return and pacing the drive !!

They're back safe and sound, I'll be looking over the car with a fine tooth comb to decide whether she's allowed out in it again... :d
