We've just had a change of policy and I'm feeling hard done to. How long do you have to keep yours?

These days I keep mine two years

Previously life when with a plc company it was a 4 year cycle

They've just changed us from 3 yrs /75k to 4 yrs /100k which is a bit annoying as I had just started getting excited about my next one!

4 years is pretty much the norm in my experience

First company car was a 1980 Cortina with a 60k contract. Changed a few over the years, last car was 3 years and 100k. Worst company car for reliability was a Citroen XM, but that was also the one with the best ride. Most fun was a Camaro Z28 in the same co2 tax band as the space shuttle. One employer took the XR3i off the car list after a few accidents and put the Orion Ghia Injection on which also had the XR3i engine. Tax regime changes over the years have spoilt all the fun.

We were mugged and told when we moved to 4 yrs / 100K from 3 yrs 80K that it would be cheaper for the company and the employee! Sunrise, surprise all the costs went up! surely the fact that most warranties expire at 3YR/60K it's going to cost more for anything that goes wrong out of warranty during the lease and hence the costs need to reflect this.

I've had that spiel as well Ian - "we'll be reducing your allowance, as the lease rates will decrease, so you'll still be able to get similar cars"....

A lot of folk now just 'buy' a company car and claim the mileage.   The BIC is a killer.

My employer binned off company cars three years ago. After they tried to make everybody select a Prius and after only one take on in the UK, they gave up.

Peasants like me get £400 taxable allowance a month and 21p (I think) a mile.

Which more than pays for my 10 year old Mondeo which does 0 business miles a year and costs me about £400 a year

Instead it goes straight into the ST and Westie fund

I guess it's only annoying if you get a company car

I get £5k a year car allowance which is basically just additionally salary and taxed accordingly

Having a company car where you have no worry and all servicing / repairs costs are covered is still very attractive, despite the BIK

I didnt want a company car with my current job and took more money. This meant I chose what car I wanted. The MD paid my insurance and 40p p/m. Others with company cars , I have discussed this week as well. It is still cheaper to take a hit on the tax for BIK, with a new car every 3 years, servicing, repairs, windscreens, insurance, depreciation etc.
