hilux Posted February 8, 2003 Posted February 8, 2003 At Autosport show I saw a couple of stands selling anti camera number plates. They are supposed to not show number when flashed. Do they work, anyone bothered to try a set? Not that I intend to go fast of course Quote
Mark Stanton Posted February 8, 2003 Posted February 8, 2003 Not heard of any that work yet Wanna do some testing Quote
Blatman Posted February 8, 2003 Posted February 8, 2003 This one definitely works. it isn't cheap though........... I have seen a "flashback" plate that also works (on motorcycles). It has two flashguns which over-expose the gatso photo, triggered by the flash of the gatso itself. Very clever, and probably illegal........ The plates which claim to be "camera proof" aren't, are also illegal, and can be spotted by a clued up copper, who will nick you for using it on the Queens highway....... Quote
DAVE O Posted February 8, 2003 Posted February 8, 2003 No they don't work. The stealth plates totally black out the number when a button is pressed inside the vehicle. So you would have to remember to press it in the first place..... Pretty pointless because if you've spotted a camera and have time to press the button you might as well have slowed down instead and saved yourself the money of buying the thing!! Dave O. Quote
steve_m Posted February 8, 2003 Posted February 8, 2003 I've got a Bell 550 radar/laser detector which has saved me using a bike for upto 56 days . . . ! I've never been done by a fixed Gatso, always mobile plod on a mission and the Bell always spots them. Even the laser guns can be detected as the laser bounces off the car in front. The Truvelo cameras are a pain in the ar*e but a GPS device will help here. I read a while ago that number plates can, legally, be mounted into a rectangular recess the same size as the plate which from the right angles (such as from the lens of a GATSO) will partially obscure the plate but from a plod car driving behind you makes it perfectly readable. I'm not convinced it would be legal though . . . but I doubt a local plod would know either. Quote
Blatman Posted February 8, 2003 Posted February 8, 2003 Trouble is, when plod are unsure, and if they're in the mood, they'll nick you and let a magistrate decide. Magistrates do what the police tell 'em to............... Quote
