Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 The Flying Scotsman is visiting the Barrow Hill Round House in Chesterfield from Thursday 21st to Sunday 24th September. We have previously visited this place a couple of times as part of the Matlock Mystery Tour, it has just been re-vamped and this forms part of it's grand re-opening. Put the date in your diary and I will sort the details out nearer the time for a visit to there. We may well be going all 4 days actually . 3 Quote
Trevor Little (Trevturtle) - Treasurer Posted August 29, 2017 Posted August 29, 2017 Another weekend away for us, sorry I'll have to miss this. My ongoing attempts to have as much holiday as you and Glen... 1 Quote
CraigHew Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Great videos although the Scotsman seems to be getting pushed along by other locos? Quote
Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative Posted September 25, 2017 Author Posted September 25, 2017 Yes Craig, that's right. I was not sure what to expect of the day, but the set up was that the Flying Scotsman ran up and down one line all morning, using the little engine to fetch it back down. The Tornado sat on display on the adjacent line all morning. At lunchtime they did the 'double header' and swapped over, so you could ride on the Tornado all afternoon, whilst the Flying Scotsman sat on display all afternoon. Maybe it was to reduce the running cost? Apparently it cost £5000 per engine, per day. Quote
