Jim G Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 Quick release steering wheels. What to get and where from? I've got a 2015 SEIW and would like to change the standard Westfield wheel for a 300mm quick release job but I have no idea what I need. Any advice greatfully received Cheers Jim Quote
shrops-paul Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 Hi. you will need a new steering wheel, a quick release and a new thing on the end of the column (boss?) as the standard Westfield one dose not have the right holes for modern wheels and releases. Its easy enough to do yourself and the cost will be down to how much you want to spend. I picked up the boss from eBay as I have an Austin 48 spline colum (you have to count them) and a basic sparco QR from the internet too. Then just choose a wheel from a shop. The boss can be bolt on or weld on. I went for the bolt option. If you have a search there's a few discussions about it. There's a bit in my blog too https://shropshirewestie.wordpress.com/2016/03/07/steering-wheel/ https://shropshirewestie.wordpress.com/2016/03/18/steering-wheel-pt2/ Quote
Steve (sdh2903) Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 I picked up a go race quick release that comes with an upper column so no slug to get welded. You remove the upper column and slide in. 10 mins done. Then just pick a wheel to go with it. It's a ball bearing type so no slack. Not cheap but one part of the car worth investing a bit in. http://go-race.co.uk/shop/4582749947/westfield-steering-column-quick-release-boss/10740708 Quote
Kevin (Mr T) Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 I don't suppose I will be the last person to recommend the Works Bell offering from Playskool. Not cheap, but a great bit of kit and Luke welds the slug for a reasonable price. Quote
Geoffrey Carter (Buttercup) Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 Third recommendation for Plays Kool and the works bell. Quote
