pistonbroke Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 In the 1980s, rallying was more popular than Formula 1. 'Group B' machines had taken the world by storm, and were among the most exciting cars to ever hit the motorsport scene. Manufacturers scrambled to build more powerful cars to be driven by fearless mavericks who could handle the extreme power. However, the unregulated mayhem would end abruptly in 1986 after a series of horrific tragedies. On now , Yesterday Repeats Mon 14th 3 - 4 pm and 12.20 = 01.20 4 Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 Is this the one that was on a year or so back? Fantastic, and sobering program if so. I must admit I loved watching and following rallying in the Group B years, to the extant that it never felt the same after that catastrophic final period when it felt like one terrible incident after another. I never really watched or could get into it after that. Even now, if asked to think of a list of Rally cars, it would be T16's, S4's, Quattro's, RS200's, 6R4's etc Quote
John K Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 No spoilers, but watch out for the codriver "Good God" moment. 1 Quote

TAFKARM Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 I watched that last night, very good. Shame I was too young to really enjoy GRP B Quote
DonPeffers Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 I remember being badly affected by the deaths of Henri Toivonen and his co-driver Sergio Cresto in the 1986 Corsica rally. 1 Quote

Alan Cutler (Adge) - Dorset AO Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 Rallying at its pinacle for me, being of a certain age! Not in the same league as Group B, but road rallying was fun and affordable(ish) back then, for mere mortals! Quote
Olliebeak Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 I remember many freezing days in November watching the RAC rally in Kielder, the days of Escorts, Talbot Sunbeams etc. We also used to go to Croft to watch local drivers in Minis, Fords etc. Motor sport seemed to be fun and affordable then, was going to go to Scarborough to watch the Barry Sheene event but they wanted £35!!! . 1 Quote
