Scotty72 Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 Is it worth fitting a decat link pipe? Are there any performance gains to be achieved by fitting one and foes the exhaust note change. I am intrigued to know the pros and cons if anyone can answer Scott Quote
Kit Car Electronics Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 I'd say mostly it's worth fitting a link pipe if you use the car on track- catalysts can be damaged by the heat and fuel burning in the exhaust, so you can keep it in good condition for MOT tests... You should gain a little power and the silencer should be enough to keep things quiet Quote
Thrustyjust Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 I was borderline on IVA with my cat and silencer for sound 99.5 Db . I believe now it has sooted to be quieter, but I have no evidence for this. Cat pipes are a way around using a cat, but it is then actually not road worthy to use without a cat, if a car is registered to have a cat. Not getting on the soap box on this, as many dont use a cat, but if you did get a stop check, you may get a slap for knowingly not having one. I didnt remove mine, as I couldnt be faffed to a/ buy one without a cat b/ MOT time, albeit I have 2 years and 3 months to go c/ the legalities of it. You should gain a few BHP, but looking at the cat in mine, I believe it to be a larger than standard honeycomb cell, so potentially a higher than standard flowing cat. This also tallies with the size of it, as performance cats are a lot smaller than production ones. You may get more pops and bangs, if that floats your boat, but I still do when its hot, but not a gattling gun style which I would consider wearsome after a while with the exhaust on the drivers side. I agree, pops and bangs are great but not when your sat next to them for a couple of hours! I get a nice burble from mine on deceleration. Think I'll just stick with the cat that's fitted. Quote
Andy (Sycho) Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 I removed the cat from mine, no real difference on the road can't say about the track as I've never tracked it with a cat. 1 Quote
