I intend to go to the oulton park gold cup with the club having never been to oulton park before any advise on best viewing places and are there plenty without having to go into a grandstand.

My other question is does the gold cup have big TV screens and a radio station like Silverstone classic did.

Thanks Matty

To many vantage points to mention , You can walk around and view at least 2/3 of the track , get close up action at Old Hall corner Druids or Lodge corners or have a wider  view overlooking Cascades or

Hill top .

No TV screens  but has great vantage points due to the hilly nature of the track .

The Grandstands are free for some meets , not sure for G Cup ? but not worth the extra if you have to pay IMO .

Afaik the Gold Cup is not particularly a WSCC organised event ,  the club is invited via the Wirral & North Wales branch , it is free to WSCC members with the proviso that there Westy goes in the designated area as a " display car " with the other Westy's , any passengers need to pay for admission .

Hope this helps :t-up:

...What Bernie said, no radio either, as far as I know. But the normal commentary is good, with plenty of speakers, so get in a decent spot near them and you'll hear good coverage.

Its much smaller scale than the Silverstone Classic. But it has some cracking Racing, and is a really friendly event. Spent ages in the Jaguar paddock area one year chatting to the drivers and admiring ther ace cars.

Last year was stood in their pit, barely two meters away from a Lotus BRM with the "flat" 16 engine as they were doing engine starts. (Could barely contain myself :d )

Additionally, there's loads of club stands  - much like Silverstone, though my impression is that people at the Gold Cup tend to be a little more approachable on the stands?

Matty,

To echo Bernie and Dave, Oulton Park has a relatively small infield and all of the viewing areas are within an easy walk. The Wirral and North Wales stand has free tea and cake and overlooks Cascades, one of the best viewing areas on the circuit. And we're right in the middle of all the club stands, Lotus, Morgan, Jaguar, even the occasional catering van. The marshals will direct you to where we are. Sunday and Monday are the popular days, the grandstands are free, but it's worth going around the infield to the many viewing points. There will be plenty of info and advice on our stand. And did I mention tea and cake?

John.

Just for the record Mr Eastwood , BRM never made a "flat 16 " or any other flat engine , Lotus used the BRM H16 as a stop gap 3ltr engine when the formula was changed from 1.5 ltrs in 1966 The Lotus 43 scored the only GP win for the H16 in the hands of the late great Jim Clark , racing god .

The car owned by Andy Middlehurst was on display at his garage in St Helens

5 mins in if you want to hear it :)
