hawksa Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 IVA passed. Registration forms sent off. Now to tackle fitting a few extras I bought but didn't want to fit prior to IVA. On the list are; 1) High level brake light for roll bar 2) Starcom1 intercom 3) USB charging point I have seen pictures of Westfields with an extra piece of facia below the dashboard in front of the gear stick. Any advice on fitting something like that to mount charging points in? Simon. Quote
Alan Cutler (Adge) - Dorset AO Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 I bought a combined cigarette lighter/usb socket in a housing from fleabay item ID 112293156638. It's not high quality, but OK for the money with a bit of fettling! Aiming to stick it on the tunnel with Velcro after IVA. Quote
hawksa Posted August 3, 2017 Author Posted August 3, 2017 I was hoping to construct something like in the picture below to mount the sockets in it. 1 Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 It's easy enough to make, which is what most people have done. There was a "centre console" available from the factory once, but I've only ever seen a tiny number of them out and about. The easiest way would be to get some aluminum sheet, cut it to the right shape, and then fold two ends back to act as the sides of the console. You could then either paint or wrap the console to give whatever finish you wanted. Alternatively, you could make one out of three pieces of marine ply, and then vinyl, or carpet wrap. i cut and folded mine, but made the sides shorter, as they were just there to give me something to fit plywood sides to. And with the heater controls and charger socket fitted. I then made some plywood side panels. And finally covered the aluminum with vinyl over a thin layer of foam padding, and added carpet over the wooden sides. And finally, fitted. But you could use carbon fiber wrap, if you wanted a more modern look. It's really just down to your imagination. 1 Quote
hawksa Posted August 3, 2017 Author Posted August 3, 2017 Fantastic pictures Dave. Just what I was after. I just hope that my workmanship is up to your standard! Cheers, Simon. Quote
Simon Marks - North Oxfordshire AO Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 Hi, I made a small panel to hold a tripmeter between the dash and the tunnel on my Eleven. A cardboard template was created then cut out of aluminium sheet. Once folded and fitted with IVA style rubber edging strip, I applied my finishing material of choice - self adhesive "furry" heavy duty Velcro tape. This leaves a "flocked" style finish and is so easy to do. I have used this on switch panels and the like on some of my other cars. Simon Quote

Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 No, Martrim is only just down the road from me in Sandbach, so I took a sample of the Westfield vinyl with me and they matched the nearest style. (Shade of black, grain pattern etc). Quote
