Seems 'doublethink' is everywhere ie. do drink alcohol as can prevent diabetes then don't drink alcohol as increases blood pressure OR must complete antibiotics course then don't complete the course and stop when you feel better.

Since when did speed humps slow white van man down or the scrote who just nicked a ride cos he spent his bus fair on the latest fix ?

on the bright side,  they did kick start a whole new industry in replacement road springs and exhaust systems

Speed humps also seemed to make people buy 4 x 4 and other off road type vehicles, so they can then ride over them at any speed without any worries.

And even when they didn't go SUV, people in areas round here where we have a lot of the pillow type, have just gone for cars with wide enough track to ride them without slowing, so in other words BIG cars, polluting even more than the shopping trolleys they replaced.

Except that because of the geometry of a 4x4, speed bumps actually do them more harm.

A 4x4 suspension is designed on a more vertical plane, to give them more suspension travel over rougher terraan, where a car is designed to absorb bumps at speed. A 4x4 won't bottom out where a car might, but hitting speed bumps at high speed isn't going to do them much good.

The fact that these 4x4s sold with 20 inch wheels and rubber band sports tyres are useless on snow/ice, doesn't stop them rolling out the 4x4 ads just as winter starts to kick in, also doesn't stop the owners driving like clowns under the impression that their 4x4 can stop better too (because obviously "normal" cars only get brakes on the front wheels).
