Vogalogue Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 Hello... I thought I’d put up a post to introduce myself. I’m a Westfield Newbie, having picked up my first Westfield last Monday. I come from a speckled history or motoring, being a bit of a Toyota Fan, particularly drawn to slight different imports, (mainly Supras and Soarers with an E46 M3 along the way before later graduating to a Hilux Surf that I have in time totally rebuilt (it taken everything off at some point apart from the dashboard and doors! – it currently runs a Landcruiser axle, and a Lexus V8) have no previous kit car experience. I have always fancied a Westfield (or “the other one”) and found myself confronted with one for sale that I was incapable of ignoring… so here I am! My Westfield is of a 95 vintage. I’m, trying to find out as much about it as possible, but I’m told it was a factory built car. From what I have worked out so far, it’s an SEiW. With a late 1600 XFlow bored out to 1680CC (Disclaimer… that’s what the logbook says…) it has twin Webber 40s, and an incredibly lumpy cam (the entire thing shakes at idle). But that is all I know so far. She sure picks up and goes but I’m still adjusting to the Westfield experience… (anything below 40 or 50 feels pedestrian, anything over 70 feels terrifying… everything else static or moving looks large and unforgiving) I’ve been searching the forum a bit (yup, MUCH better on 20/18PSI than the 30 it was on) but still have various questions, mainly around any form of confirmation that it’s a “factory” built car, and if so did they use a standard platform, so I can work out what front brakes and wheel bearings I need. I’d also like to refresh the coolant hoses and have seen Samco hoses for “another brand” for the Xflow engine (I can’t find details on the forum search if they work for us). Although I’ve been “building” cars for years, most are rebuilds or hybrids of various factory configurations. but most importantly, I built them so know what service items to use…. The unknown factor of what is what is a new one for me, it looks like my engine is from an Escort, the Diff from a Sierra... the gearbox... no idea… its 5 speed so I’ll guess sierra... and are those hideous front indicators "Standard"? She has been sitting for a few years, outside (under tarps) and the last MOT was 2011. There is a lot of tidying up to do to restore her to her former glory, but she drives well so far. I've given a very brief "once over" cleaning out the carbs, plugs, oil change. Next up is the brake pads and fluid (I need to ID what's needed) Gearbox and diff oil. (if it was an LSD.. it sure isn't now!) I’m in the Oxfordshire Area, gutted to see there was a meet at the Bird In Hand recently before I was aware of you all! Hopefully there will be more and I can meet other members. Anyway, I thought I’d say hi. it’s a very welcome addition to my little fleet (aforementioned V8 Hilux, and daily/Company 118d M sport) Naturally after out heat spell its rained nearly daily since I’ve had the thing! 2 Quote
CraigHew Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 Hello and too. Looks like a nice clean car that's remained unmolested. A great place to start your Westfield adventure....! 1 Quote
chriss1455 Posted July 17, 2017 Posted July 17, 2017 With regards to the car "shaking at idle" i had this last year. I simply changed over the rubber part of the engine mounts which solved the issue for me. And very in expensive 1 Quote
KugaWestie Posted July 17, 2017 Posted July 17, 2017 Welcome Please feel free to come along to the North Oxfordshire meet, details in my signature below. We are not meeting on the last Weds this month though. Instead we are having a run to H Cafe in Berinsfield on Thursday 27th July, aiming to arrive there approx 7.30pm. You are more than welcome to meet us there. 1 Quote
Steven Thorne Posted July 17, 2017 Posted July 17, 2017 Welcome Car looks great. The Thames Valley meet is the 2nd Sunday of each month, 12:00 at The Bird in Hand, Knowl Hill and there are usually plenty of knowledgeable Westfield owners there to offer advise and help. Hopefully you will be able to attend the next meet on 13th August if not pop along to the see the North Oxfordshire chaps at Berrinsfield, if the weathers good I might well pop along and say hello. Murraymint Posted July 17, 2017 Posted July 17, 2017 Hi and welcome...maybe a good start would be to contact Westfield direct and they should be able to confirm if its a factory build...otherwise it looks good and its just about getting it out on the road and enjoying it... 1 Quote
Thrustyjust Posted July 17, 2017 Posted July 17, 2017 Welcome from Thatcham, only over the Chilts. Great to see another Crossflow out and about. As Steve says, come to the Bird In Hand meeting . We dont bite and the chips are great. I wouldnt get too worried about a factory build , there are some decent better home build cars , which had more time and money spent by their home tinkerers. Dont recognise the reg as being a Brum car. Hope to see you at a meeting soon 1 Quote

Vogalogue Posted July 17, 2017 Author Posted July 17, 2017 Thanks for the welcome.. - I'm actually less than 4 miles from the Bird In Hand (Edit: wrong Bird in hand... I'm under 10 miles away) so I'll definitely be along. - although I'm off in the sun for two weeks at the end of the for the end of July/Start of August so I'll have to make it next month. I'm learning what spec it is, and slowly tidying up things mechanically. I am promising myself I'll not modify it... I'm announcing this publically so I will be shamed for going back on my words... Although I'm tempted to fit a rev limiter as it doesn't appear to have one... So far I've done a little bit of fiddling on it each day around work, and done about 200 miles. Today's job was cleaning the K&N's, tomorrows is a brake fluid flush but a list is already forming.. I've not even got down to the cosmetics yet! (needs a bl**** good polish!) Quote
