well im not sure where the time went from blyton last year to now but i never got around to making it into the speed series this year but im still aiming for next year. which has turned my attention to maybe getting myself some wearables for my curent trackdays planned but im confused on the race suit side of things. as i want to buy one thats going to obviously last me a few seasons what do i need to buy can it be a karting suit or are they not compliant in the speed series

Pretty sure Kart suits are not fireproof so not suitable. 

FIA 8856-2000 says the blue book

you need a lid to Snell 2010 or 2015, or FIA 8860-2010, 8859-2015

yep i gotta get me some new gloves ripped the last paid last year. im thinking about getting one of the demon tweeks packages with the suit the gloves and the boots

Boots aren't a requirement for the class I'm in - but if you haven't got a pair, might as well go the whole hog - I got carried away and blagged a Hans too

that was going to be another question. how do i work out what angle hans i need?

The angle depends on your seats. So a laid back single seater might need a 30-40º angle whereas a saloon car with bolt upright seats might need 10º.

I went for 20º as that seems to be the norm for our kind of cars. The size (ie S/M/L etc) relates to 'collar' size really. The one I have is a Medium and it just goes past my neck!

The Schroth HANS I got looked a bit narrow for the Harness straps, but I checked and it is fine with the 3" shoulders as well as the more Hans-specific 2".

HANS is not required unless you are running in a class with slicks or certain sticky tyres (I think) - certainly not needed for the road going class I'm in, but figured I'd not pass on one when it came up at a decent price.
