DonPeffers Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 You do get the impression civilised society has gone to Hell in a hand cart when in the last 6 months there have been 400 acid throwing criminal attacks in the UK. Quote
jeff oakley Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 I read that part of the reasons for the increase in acid attacks is that it carries a shorter sentence than if a knife was used. I would say that acid is worse as the majority of stabbing victims survive, acid victims are made to live with the consequences for ever. A lot of crimes now do not carry appropriate sentences and there is too much understanding of the guilty people not the victims Quote
DonPeffers Posted July 17, 2017 Posted July 17, 2017 I think a big part of the problem is the cost of keeping prisoners in jail hence 1/3 off sentence for pleading guilty (even when there is overwhelming evidence of guilt as saves Court time and costs) then automatic 1/2 off and the remainder in the community on licence so really only 1/3 of total sentence is the time locked away from society. As every other part of business is contracted out with roles overseas how about placing repeat violent offenders overseas? Not for a first sentence but after early release if another crime is committed then say prisoner goes to a cheaper option jail like Bulgaria or Mongolia. No carpet or own TV there. Quote
