You do get the impression civilised society has gone to Hell in a hand cart when in the last 6 months there have been 400 acid throwing criminal attacks in the UK.

I read that part of the reasons for the increase in acid attacks is that it carries a shorter sentence than if a knife was used. I would say that acid is worse as the majority of stabbing victims survive, acid victims are made to live with the consequences for ever.

A lot of crimes now do not carry appropriate sentences and there is too much understanding of the guilty people not the victims

I think a big part of the problem is the cost of keeping prisoners in jail hence 1/3 off sentence for pleading guilty (even when there is overwhelming evidence of guilt as saves Court time and costs) then automatic 1/2 off and the remainder in the community on licence so really only 1/3 of total sentence is the time locked away from society.

As every other part of business is contracted out with roles overseas how about placing repeat violent offenders overseas? Not for a first sentence but after early release if another crime is committed then say prisoner goes to a cheaper option jail like Bulgaria or Mongolia. No carpet or own TV there.
