Peter (Monty) Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 Has anyone used these LED indicators? Do they have any IVA impact or is it only headlamps which have LED-specific requirements? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/361843337840 Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 I don't recall any specific led considerations anyware other than headlights. Obviously though, that's assuming they meet all the normal requirements etc. The only thing, generally, you have to watch with LEDs is using the correct relative brightness compared to the other lamps - this tends to be less of a problem if using LED fittings designed for the specific role, ie indicators, brake lights, tail lights etc, but do watch out for it! CraigHew Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 can't comment on IVA aspects but when I swapped over to LED indicators I searched for white items that flashed amber, as I was looking to use clear lenses and wanted to avoid the classic "fried egg" look. Had to swap my flasher relay too to an LED compatible one. Quote
Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 What's your plan post IVA? Do you wish to stay Amber of go clear? I IVA'd with LED indicator bulbs front and rear with Amber lens on the front, which are now clear. Quote
Peter (Monty) Posted July 10, 2017 Author Posted July 10, 2017 My car may have some prominent orange accents anyway so I don't object too much to the amber lenses, although clear all around is a great look (especially matching up reverse and rear fog). Position-wise, I've been thinking about two small 3D-printed casings to mount them on the outboard side of the headlamps (4" dominators), provided I can meet the angles and have sufficient clearance to the cycle wing (including lock-to-lock and in bump). 1 Quote

I'd stupidly forgotten you'd tango'd your calipers! Quote

John (Kernow) Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 I have fitted these but the clear version. They are good quality, nice and bright easily equivalent to a 21w bulb and 'E' marked. I can't see why they would have a problem at IVA and I hope not as all my rear lights are LED. My IVA is soon so I will let you know. John 1 Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 All my lights bar dip/main beam were LED for IVA, never even raised a comment. 1 Quote
Peter (Monty) Posted July 10, 2017 Author Posted July 10, 2017 Thanks all. What diameter are the standard indicators? 73mm sounds large (next to a 4" headlamp)... Quote
Alan Cutler (Adge) - Dorset AO Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 @Monty My bog standard Westfield supplied ones are 70mm dia over the rubber boot ~ 68mm Orange lens. 1 Quote
