Thinking of doing my first track day and was wondering if there's anything I need to take or know ?

I will be driving my car there ,I know I need a helmet or I can hire one ,I assume I need to take a drink and food .

As for petrol do I take a couple of jerry cans and will there be somewhere to leave them and a bag/ coat .

Track day insurance Roughly how much is it and would you bother ,instruction is available what does that involve ?

thanks

Steve.

It's an airfield so there'll be limited facilities. Javelin usually manage to have some sort of butty van on site though.. Take fuel with you or be prepared to leave the venue to get fuel. As far as I can remember there's fuel in Cottesmore village.

Have never bothered with insurance but it's a personal choice.

Helmet Is really how much you want to spend. I went for a "cheapish" bike helmet on ebay.

food depends on where you go but alot trackshave a cafe etc

I normally fill up before you get there and see how your doing at lunch break and go out and fill up if i need to. if your v8 you might not make lunch lol

Track day insurance I have not bothered with but am happy to take the risk. Most come with high xs's I have not found in the numorus days I have done that there has been a problem. Your not racing and overtaking is by consent and not on bends so hitting people should not normally be the issue, its running out of talent or mech failure. Drive withing your limits and dont stay out too long and you should be fine.

instruction is normally excellent and youu will be much faster and smoother well worth it

hope this helps

Instruction with a Javelin trackday is 20mins and involves hand gestures (you'll get the gist of it) when driving and a chat at the beginning and end of a session sometimes half way through.  Definitely worth it for a Newbie trackday hero.

Insurance is purely your choice, I've never had track insurance in 20 years and been ok.

Your doomed in a V8 for petrol consumption :) unless you carry another 40 litres at least in cans.  Best to find someone to come with you in a tin top and carry yer fuel and tools etc,  they would have a good time being a passenger as well.  If not then dumping your gear in a pile with a waterproof sheet over it is OK, no one nicks stuff at trackdays that I have ever been to.

For clothing you have to wear long trousers and have arms covered, thin soled trainers for pedal feel and a full face helmet, same for passengers.

Come to think of it,  it's best to tag along to a track where other Westfield club members are going, more fun, we share rides, tools, and experience freely given.
