Northwarks Posted July 7, 2017 Author Posted July 7, 2017 So we have the car back, spoke to the service manager and actually got my grubby hands on the old turbo, there was ~5mm of play in the shaft and the blades were all still intact (which surprised me) so VW say there is no further work/investigation to do. The oil level had dropped and there was oil in the turbo so either that was pre/post failure - I suppose we will never know. Apparently the turbo is a real git to replace and requires the coolant to be dropped due to the complex exhaust manifold setup. So all good, a couple of weeks running in and then I think he's off for the remap Quote

pete g Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 i know form people who change them on audi cars. if they not cleaned out all the pipework out the new turbo soon fails again. Quote
