25mm Rubber or Brush cable grommets

Recommended Posts

Even with the help of Google and Amazon shopping, I'm struggling to find suitable grommets for my AV wall.

Its for the rear corners of my alcoves that host the front speakers.

I want something 25mm diameter so I can pass both the banana plugs and the cable through.

Also it will go into 12mm MDF so I'm not looking for the style with a central channel like the ones you use for socket backboxes, the ones that clip onto the metal.

These need to be push fit from one side

Anybody got any ideas where I can source these from..?

can't you fit a plastic plasterboard backbox to your MDF and then use the normal wall socket brush outlet one?

I could but it would be massive over kill for a single speaker cable.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B013X6TKKI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I had got these as they would be perfect for the side by side twin core cable. But I realised I would have to remove the banana plugs. No biggy but it doesn't seem well enough engineered for my tastes.

And doesn't leave any future proofing. Hence the desire for a grommet style.

How about breaking at the panel? Use Speakons maybe?  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speakon_connector   It's what I did for my HT. Put wallboxes in with sockets and suitable length cables from speakers to plugs. Also makes it very easy to move/remove the speakers if needed for any reason without leaving load of wires laying about the place.

I was going to do something like that for the rears. Hide the cable behind the skirting board and mount some sort of plug / socket approx where i expect the speaker stands to be, so this has been bookmarked.

But the front alcoves will have random other stuff there as well as speakers so I want future flexibility, hense looking at brush plate stuff. But not full size.

Engineeering samples for testing please, no, no, I need more than one, as some of it is destructive testing and we need a whole one to check against...

(Not saying I've done this before or anything. :suspect:

I used 8 way Speakons for the fronts on my system, bi-amped speakers took 4 plus 4 more for some RGB LED ambient light strips that are clipped to the backs of the speakers to wash the walls. Depends how much random stuff you have in mind I guess :)  I've found the socket & plug solution really handy at times. Comes from spending 30 odd years in broadcasting I suppose - we do love to have lots of connectors......

eta. I found some skirting shaped trunking that has 3 cable compartments and comes with a range of socket back boxes too. It's a two piece item, base plus top cover. I just attached it to the existing skirts in both houses I've used it in, although you could just as well use it as the only skirt and it would look less bulky that way. They do a range of internal and external corners too. Let me know if it's of any interest and I'll dig out their details. I've got some bits left over from doing this place so can do you dimensions etc if required. I also managed to track down some coving style mouldings that matched the ones already in the place and used them to get wires up and down the walls in the corners of the rooms. I didn't want to get into chasing them in as the room in question had only recently been decorated. It was stupidly expensive though. Also used some to get a gas pipe from the loft to a new hole-in-the-wall fire I had installed.
