philso Posted June 8, 2017 Author Posted June 8, 2017 Thanks for the warm welcome. Ian Thanks for providing the links for Westfield builders on this side of the pond. I was at Toshiba until last September. Prior to that I was at PDL in New Zealand. A few of my coworkers at Toshiba were from Ross Hill. Mole I was in Fort Worth for training on my new job for most of last November. In the US, the kits are sold without engines. I think they do include just about everything else that is not optional such as the transmission and differential. The EcoBoost is used in a lot of vehicles here so they are easily available for $800 to $1500, including shipping. A few months ago, I found two that had less than 40000 miles of use on the first page of a search on eBay Motors. Most of the engines are out of sedate sedans, CUV's and SUV's so it is a reasonable bet they were not driven that hard so it would be reasonably safe to just install one with anything less than 60000 - 80000 miles without having to do any rebuilding first. I don't recall if the Sport 250 kit sold here included an aftermarket ECU to get around the need to disable the immobilizer in the OEM ECU and the need for other black boxes to be present before the engine will run. The F20's are a bit more of a challenge. They are available in small number but pretty much every one I have found has over 100000 miles of use, most likely hard use too. They also cost a lot more, in the range of $3000 - $5000. It is likely that one would want to refresh or rebuild the engine before installing it. Unfortunately, I missed out on an opportunity to get an engine and transmission with delivery miles (less than 10). I ran across a gentleman in Fort Worth who managed to buy the drivetrains out of 8 - 10 cars that were written off after they arrived in Houston. One of them had broken free and spent a month in the hold of a ship banging into all the other cars around it :-( I have also been considering some other engines but I am not sure if they will fit. I will be searching through the older posts to see what others have done. Quote
Steve (sdh2903) Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 Regards ecu. If You want a plug and play solution this is the one I've used and Westfield supply with the sport 250 kit. http://www.cjponyparts.com/ford-racing-engine-control-pack-manual-transmission-2-0l-ecoboost/p/M601720T/ If you want to start getting into modifications and remapping then probably wise to go aftermarket. In the UK these guys are very well thought of. https://www.scs-delta.co.uk/product-page/ford-2-0-ecoboost-management-kit Quote
philso Posted June 9, 2017 Author Posted June 9, 2017 Thanks, sdh2903. I will look around to see if anyone local has experience with those ECU's. Quote
