TAFKARM Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 Terrible business. Hope no one in the club is affected in any way. 1 Quote
Andrew Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 I don't tend to agree with much DT has to say these days, but I think he got it right this time. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/murdered-evil-losers-donald-trump-10480057 We need to stop calling them Isis, or formerly know as this that or the other.. they are cowards. If they want a fight, they should put on uniforms and fight soldiers not kids. 1 Quote

I was out in town last on one of my regular (monday club) nights out with my old mates. We usually start early and finish early cos a couple of lads travel a fair distance on public transport, so I was on the tram at 9.45 going through Victoria station and passed the Arena. Obviously that was before the horrific cowardly incident took place, got home went to bed and woke up this morning to the terrible news, what can you say? Don't these idiots realise they wont win, they will eventually be wiped off the face on the planet and good riddance to them too. 1 Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 I am as horrified as anyone by this, and having been a young (ish) adult during the Irish campaigns, I understand the anguish that these senseless acts incur. But I cannot help feeling that the torrent of what I might dub emotional porn being poured out hour after hour by the media actually feeds the terrorists' purpose. They can sit back and watch the video and audio reports with politicians wringing their hands live from Parliament Square and feel satisfied that the effect on the nation is indeed great. I would be intersted in other members' views. 5 Quote

And I grew up in the dark times of the 70's with IRA also... Terrible, yes, targeting kids, despicable, thoughts are with all involved, definitely By having it on all news channels, 24 hrs a day and constantly having testimonials from folk expressing how traumatized they are must be giving the perps a real feeling of victory and satisfaction. The way to show we are not cowed by this is to get back to 'normal' (what ever counts as 'normal' nowadays) as quickly as possible. Do it with respect and dignity but get back to normal. Decent human spirit is a lot more resilient than most folk realize... Let us show that... Quote
Thrustyjust Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 Currently my daughters boyfriend has one friend unaccounted for. It was 2, but they found one in hospital and she was trampled to the ground from the people getting out. I dont know the answer to get rid of these scum. Quote
Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 The media are giving these scum what they want, in a word, PUBLICITY. The IRA hid behind the banner of religon, these scum are doing the same, they are all just low level gangsters wanting to do bad things to 'normal' people. 1 Quote
Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 It's a very fine line between factual reporting and not giving them the media coverage they so want. Also the more publicity the more likely others are to copy etc. Quote
jeff oakley Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 I too share the revulsion over this. To me though there was a world of difference between the IRA and this scum. They tended to give warnings, not always, they went for in the main military targets and had what they saw as justification. They also did mind dying and that was a huge difference. Neither were justified at all but the IRA were like boy scouts at the side of this lot. This lot do not care for their own lives and by their actions how do you stop a single man running into a place like this and blowing themselves up? And as others have rightly said, the publicity feeds their sick and twisted ends as even children are infidels of no worth to them and they glorify the death of a Marta who carries out the attack. The issue is how do you stop them without curtailing freedoms? How do we respond as not all Muslims are evil or support them, yet they will be caught up in the horror. People will quote one mans terrorist is another freedom fighter and liken Mandela to their actions, quite wrongly, but one cannot avoid seeing that over the years terrorism has worked for many. But other than the death of all non believers what is their aim? They abuse the freedoms they have, by trying to remove the freedom of others by fear and force. In my opinion we need to stop pussyfooting around, any that are involved in any terrorist plot or action life in prison, no parole. I would re-instate the death penalty to be honest, others feel differently. I would come down hard on any internet operation like Facebook that allows any extremist group to spread their hate and fine them heavily, money is the route to curb their willingness to allow such actions, money will make them take action. We will see a difference, pictures of dead and mutilated kids in Syria on the news were okay for us to see, as it served a purpose to paint Assad and Putin as evil, but we will not see pictures of mutilated children in Manchester as somehow their deaths are more dignified, personal, private as they will not want to whip up hatred for any group as that is what they might want, to turn good Muslims into targets of aggression so they too join the fight. Targets like airports, Parliament, and the Royals have such protection now, it will be soft targets they attack, how can schools secure kids, or hospitals, shopping centres do that? We live in a world where there is still more good than evil, but one that has changed where slaughter is a currency, where good lives are taken too soon. My heart is aching for all involved. The victims, the families and the emergency workers who will never be quite the same again, the but I will not change what I do but wherever I go now I always look where the escape routes are just in case something happens. 2 Quote

Not just the IRA , look back in history , how many nations (including we Brits ) have played the religion card for there own personal gains , Holy wars of the Cruisades went on for centuries , The Spanish inquisition , Christianity was used as an excuse to find Gold and horrifically wiped out a whole nation ? Salladin , Muslim wars etc, etc. religious extremists in persuit of power, using whichever version of bible or koran or whatever religion you want to call it for there own ends and using there rotten distorted minds to convince young susceptible minds to carry out there actions and control others Don't see how we can stop it , just far to easy using today's media to spread the evil word Quote

Thrustyjust Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 Seems the second friend has now appeared in the last hour. I have no idea why they never came forward earlier, but luckily they are both fine. 3 Quote
