jaynb Posted May 16, 2017 Author Posted May 16, 2017 (edited) hi again everyone, I'm going to email the factory again about my interest in finding the correct kit for me. I've read steves 250 build and i think thats the car for me. as I've mentioned before the factory said they don't offer the 250 as a starter kit but only a full kit. If go down steves route should i ask for a s2000 starter kit and say I'm going to use the ford engine, which ill supply myself along with the gearbox and eco etc... i just want to get the right thing thats all. thanks for everyones input I'm really glad i asked on here before i sounded stupid! Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 ..We're you asking about a starter kit, or did you say staged kit? The only reason I ask, is if you mentioned "staged" they may have misunderstood what you wanted: they do offer certain models as what are known as modular kits. They are effectively a full, complete kit, broken down into, and sold as, a series of modules with everything needed to complete that stage included. AFAIK, there is no modular Sport 250. The Starter kits on the other hand are just that, body, chassis and certain other parts to start you off and that it. The rest has to be either bought as you go from Westfield, or from elsewhere. If that's what you want, press for a starter kit option. Quote
jaynb Posted May 16, 2017 Author Posted May 16, 2017 sorry i did make a spelling mistake. I think i did get confused with modular and starter etc.... can i get the sport 250 as a starter kit and then just buy the things i need as and when i need them or can afford too, from either westfield or elsewhere? Steve (sdh2903) Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 It will depend. The factory dont seem very interested in pushing the starter kit. I know of a couple in progress but not many. The chassis is principally the same as the s2000 but does have a few additions for the throttle pedal housing and a few other bits and bobs. They don't seem to offer a modular package either just seems to be all or nowt. I suppose you will have to email Mr Westwood and see if he'll sell you one!! They are some machine tho and if you like wiring you'll enjoy yourself Quote
jaynb Posted May 16, 2017 Author Posted May 16, 2017 i have sent him an email to see what he says. it will be next year or the end of this year it would be needed so I'm not going to push too much. how did you start off steve, was it by getting them to sell you the sport 250 chassis as a starter kit. your build thread is really good mate and I'm sure i will be calling on you in the future on places to source parts especially that sump and intercooler/rad combo. that looks a fantastic bit of kit. in the mean time I'm keeping my eyes open for an engine 2012-2015. thanks again everyone. Steve (sdh2903) Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 I actually ordered a mega s2000 starter kit plus a few other bits. Before actually researching the used engine market. Schoolboy error. After trawling for an engine and seeing it was going to cost 3k+ for a 12-17 year old engine with 50k up to over a 100k I chanced my arm with Simon and asked could I swap to the ecoboost. He wasn't keen but he relented and I picked up an engine that was a couple of years old with around 10k on it for 1800 quid. Nothing against the honda engine by the way as they are probably the most suited higher power Na engine out there for a westfield. But I wasn't comfortable paying that for a used engine of that age. 3 Quote
jaynb Posted May 16, 2017 Author Posted May 16, 2017 i agree on the s2000 engines costing the ecoboost ones can be a lot newer and cheeper. ill see what i can do, ill keep my eye open for both engines but id be happier with the ford just as its a hell of a lot newer. if you don't mind me asking how much roughly is the starter kit? and what does that get you to start with. thanks again you've been a big help Quote
Steve (sdh2903) Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 Think from memory my initial Westfield Bill was around the 7k mark. That was starter kit. Uprights. Steering rack and column. Fw rear. Fuel tank and mounting kit. Chassis and engine loom. Rear lights and a few other bits and bobs. I did buy during one of the 10% off deals. I've then shopped around with bits from rallydesign, playskool, power torque, eBay, procomp and the for sale section on here to try and keep the budget in check. If you do go down this route when shopping for an engine try and get as much as you can. Engine looms and injector looms are usually pulled off the engines and sold separately and they are creeping up in price now. I paid around 130 for both. You will also need the map sensors. If you can get the 3 (one in air intake box, one in intercooler outlet and one in the intake manifold) it will save you £££ With regards the ecu. I would also look around at options before choosing. The ford kit is good value considering what you get and it's ready mapped and runs like an oem engine but it's also more expensive now than when I bought it as the dollar rate is crap. However if you read my issues with the cooling an aftermarket ecu would be easier to tweak. See here for example http://twinkam.co.uk/epages/191f6b26-60bf-483c-b021-755a0c9099c1.mobile/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/191f6b26-60bf-483c-b021-755a0c9099c1/Products/SC356&Locale=en_GB This would run a stock engine but if you wanted to tweak then a remap would be needed. If there's anything else you need info wise on the 250 just shout. There's loads of info from the very knowledgeable s2000 lot if you sway back to that option. 2 Quote
