hi everyone I've just joined the site and thought id put up a post to introduce myself.

Im not currently an owner of a westfield but i have been thinking about it for a number of years, but have never had the space nor the opportunity to build one.

Im currently in the process in moving to a new house with a GARAGE!! at last the space to build something I've always wanted. Ive been looking through many posts on here and reading many of the build threads, which i have found very enjoyable.

i think the Mega s2000 is the one for me as i really like that engine and i bet i goes like stink in a tiny westfield. My question to the current owners / builders on here is, is this kit available in stages. Im just thinking about costs or is it best to save for the complete kit. i was hopping to do it in smallish stages as and when i can.

I am going down to the factory in the next few weeks to have a look and speak to the guys there about it, i just thought id ask the people who have already build one or are currently going through the process.

:ww:from Essex.

I'm no expert, but I get the impression that these engines are becoming more difficult to source and, as a result, more expensive.

You will get plenty of help on here from people far more knowledgeable than me!

Good luck with the build!

:ww: there's two ways to go really, many just order the full kit & crack on with it, but for me that was a no go with the two I've built due to cost.

I just order a starter kit then you can buy all the bits from Westfield as you need them, or source  them you self to save even more money.

One thing I would source pretty quickly is the engine, they are getting hard to come by & are going up in value.

The engines are still available but are getting more expensive, as you say your not building in a hurry and they do come up at a fair price occasionally.

At £3000 they still are good value when you are getting over 200 BHP complete with inlet, alternator and gearbox ETC

I have built one an in my opinion the engine is perfect in a light weight car as they drive with good manners below 4000 RPM and go like stink over 6000RPM

(Not like a silly turbo that will chuck you in a hedge at 2000 RPM)  Await the back lash on that one:p

Like Andy I spent a year building and its not a bad thing to do as you change your mind on things as you go.

They were doing deals at Stoneleigh kit car show and I know that was two weeks ago but if your cheeky they might do a deal.

There are plenty of them on the road now and quite a few build diary's on here for reference and lots of people more that willing to help

I can only echo what the others have said, welcome too, by the way!

Yes, you can buy just a starter kit, note if planning on building it over time as funds and free time allow, then ask to delay ordering the bodywork till it's required. It's not just that it saves having to store it; grp is still slightly green when you receive it fresh, it's not finished curing and has much more "give" in it to bend and flex parts while fitting.

However as time goes on, the curing process will soon finish and parts get much trickier to bend and twist, and there's far more chance of cracking and damaging it when pushing and pulling at it.

As for engines. There are only a finite number around, and we need pre-2006 non drive by wire cars* for the build, S2000's are starting to go up in price and really claim their place as a modern classic, unfortunately this is starting to really impact engine prices and availability.

*it should be technically possible to adapt a later drive by wire engine for Westfield use if you went for a throttle body conversion, but it's not as simple as that, internal trigger wheels are also different between the two engines and would need swapping. To the best of my knowledge, no one has done it in Westfield circles yet!

As Stu said Westfield had 10% off at the show & if I remember correctly I had an email saying they are extending it until the end of the mouth.

Also don't be scared of buying just an engine and then buying a gearbox separately

You can save a bit of money doing this as scrappers know that the kit car world want both together and seem to charge more for it.

Oh, and :ww:

Thanks for the info and the welcome everyone. I have seen the engines online arnt cheep and it's going to be next year probably when I could order a kit or starter kit as per the moving house situation at the moment.

I have seen a few other engines being used in these kit cars, is there a universal kit westfield supply where you can add sort of whichever engine you like? I like the sound of the sport 250 car but they don't supply kits other than the complete kit and funds won't allow that with saving for a few years!

I can on the other hand get a Ford 2.0 ecoboost engine with turbo for 1500 from a friend who's got a Ford tuning company?

You can get the sport 250 as a starter kit, have a look at Steve's build thread.

If that's the case I'll ask when I go to the factory as the sport 250 maybe a better choice for me.

I emailed Simon at westfield last week and he said they don't offerthe 250 sport as a starter kit but only a complete kit?

:ww: from sunny Somerset. You'll find this club is very friendly and a great knowledge group, always willing to provide invaluable advice I've found.

I'm currently building a 250 from a full kit, but as Sycho says above, Steve built his based on a starter kit. Thoroughly recommend reading his build thread if you haven't already. I found the electrics on a 250 are a bit daunting at first sight, but ok when you get your head around it!!

Best of luck with whatever you build, it's my first attempt, and thoroughly enjoying it.

If you go for the Ecoboost engine, believe it's wise to also get the engine loom at the same time if possible.

Thanks alot adgec, I'd like to see how you progress. Well I'm going to read his full thread on that 250 build, it seems it is possible to do on the starter kit then that may well be the route I take. I'm going to take a good while doing research and possibly have a look at a few finished cars in the flesh.

I'm an auto electrician by trade so wiring is my thing lol

Thanks again
