Looking to come back to westfield ownership

Hello to all, after a bit of time away from westfield's im looking to get another. Had a lot of trouble with my previous car and in hindsight it probably wasnt the best example I could of brought, but i was sick of searching for one so overlooked some things I probably shouldn't of. Ended up chucking a fortune at it and rarely driving it as it was always broken and decided to get rid because of this. 

Looking to get something at the lower end of the market up to about 7k maximum, which is going to limit my engine choice a bit, anyone got any thoughts on whats good and what should be avoided? For example Ive seen a few crossflow cars for sensible money but not sure if they would feel a bit underpowered and be problematic due to their age. Thanks

The mighty Crossflow, underpowered?

Possibly, but get a good one and they feel lively enough, make a glorious sound and are so easy to work on.

I had a dizzy problem on mine last year, but a megajolt later and it runs like clockwork.

Crossflows are outdated and underpowered mate......that's a lot of people's opinions. On the flip side, they are easy to look after and simple to work on, suit the westfield and most importantly, have a soul and a soundtrack to die for. If you manage to find one with a genuine 120 plus horses, then you will not be too far away from cars with a lot more power on paper if it's for road use. If you find one with 140 plus horses, then you can embarrass much more expensive and powerful machinery.....

if you're on a low end budget, like I was, then picking up more modern engined cars at bottom end prices can be a lottery too, and they aren't as easy or as cheap to work on. Having said that, you can get a dog or a Good'un either going old school or modern. Cars on here are generally from enthusiasts and have been looked after and are good honest cars at a reasonable price, with some bargains thrown in.

A crossflow with a nice head, cam, light flywheel and a good gearbox still makes a great car. No reason you can't do the same kind of fuel injection conversion as we've done with Scott's CVH for close to £1000 too, if you're determined.

Ive never had any experience of a crossflow at all so i guess i ought to try one, my dad had a 165hp pinto one which was great and felt quicker than one he had some years later with a 180hp xe engine. There dosent seem to be much for sale at the moment in my budget or not
