Copilot on your iPhone, it downloads the data to your device so no data usage on the move other than minor use for traffic alerts.

Personally I can't recommend copilot on an iPhone at all.

You can't load in waypoints from a desktop or other route planner (eg gpx files) so is totally useless for shared routes on a tour.

But it also decided to route me back to the start of a route while in Austria after a coffee break. Not knowing where we were it took a good 30 mins of driving the wrong way before I recognised a bridge we'd already crossed!

I very nearly threw the iPhone off a mountain because of copilot!

but that's just my opinion of course :)

Yep. It's a bike one. Cracking bit of kit. Even has Bluetooth for voice nav via my headset.

I've been using tomtom on my iPhone for quite a while after my TomTom died.  I'm still using the older version and have not yet switch over to the new go version. as the maps are pre-loaded it does not use data, apart from for the traffic info which tends to be very good. You do need to be aware the pre-loading the maps does use space on your device though.

I've Euro maps loaded and though not it's intended purpose i't has been useful abroad a few times to be able load up a map and see where we are without having to worry about data and that's without a car.

I used to use google maps but now exclusively use Waze on my phone. Very similar to all other mobile satnavs but with a twist, its community based so people log events such as mobile speed cameras, accidents, heavy traffic, people on the hard shoulder etc.

One better than that, people can also record fuel prices, so when you need to find a fuel station, you get a list of the closest ones and how much the fuel is.
