tolf Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 Who was that Steve bloke on radio 2 just now? no mention of Westfield and apparently Caterham the largest club there- really??? clearly not a Westfield fan, was pushing Mev and others constantly Quote
Andy - a15cro Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 It was a very biased interview. I think that was the editor of Kit Car Magazine. When asked whats the most popular kit car...........not a sniff of Westfield who blatantly dominated the show in numbers. Quote
KugaWestie Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 The editor of Complete Kit Car Magazine is called Adam, so it wasnt them 1 Quote
Robin Parker (Red Spider) - Yorkshire AO Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 Didn't hear the radio, but was it Steve Hole? Quote
Andy - a15cro Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 He said they have various projects running for the magazine so I assumed he was the editor, maybe just a member of the mag. Ive actually emailed the show with a couple of pics, because I felt quite strong that the interview was so misguided........maybe I'm still a bit tired and grumpy! Quote

CraigHew Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 To be fair, he said "Caterham are the biggest kit manufacturers but don't attend the Stoneleigh show" yes, he didn't mention westfield, but only mentioned about 3-5 others too. His biggest aim seemed to be getting Chris Evans to commit to Kit-Fest, where a kit car element can be incorperated into his already sucessful Car-fest. Quote
Andy Banks Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 We had an approach from the BBC for this and we kindly accepted. The expectation was that if required, we would be called. We were not. I have yet hear the show but will get the podcast and have a listen... Please can I caution against any approach to the show or its participants, thanks. Quote

GuitarmanUK Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 Yes it was Steve Hole from TKC Magazine. Overall it was a good promotion for the kit car scene but as has been said, he didn't mention Westfield or Great British Sportscars and many others. Some of his stats were a bit off the cuff as well. I am sure MEV would love to sell 4 or 5 cars a week!! Fair play for getting Chris Evans to agree to a Kitfest inside one of his Carfests, but let's see if it actually happens. Quote

Indeed, practically by definition, there is no such thing as having the last word with the media. Every single item broadcast/transmitted/printed by the media will tell the story the editor responsible wants to tell. If a good/clever/skilled editor wants to tell a particular story, your contribution will be used to support whatever side of the argument they want, regardless of the side you were on!! Find the positives, walk away, curse quietly under your breath... Quote
jeff oakley Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 Unless you are a seasoned PR person, it is hard to be able to react to someone else's questions unless you have been primed. I think Steve Hole, who is 100% for the kit scenes was overall trying to get past the "built in a shed" tag. Most people will know of Caterham, but how many of those listening would know Westfield, or GBS as a "7" type car. What he will have done is infuriate the Caterham owners who try desperately to distance themselves from Kit cars. As for his figures, MEV have sold over 1000 Exocets so far so possibly a bit over the top but at least he was portraying a healthy market and dynamic companies who are involved. He was also good at selling the high end cars, I think the Ultima Evolution with every bell whistle will be £120k and will annihilate many other performance cars which seemed to shock Chris Evans. Also good to mention that TVR, Lotus and Ginetta were kit car companies before they moved on and up. Also got in that we are all normal people who are involved in Kit Cars so although he didn't mention Westfield, which I am sure Simon will pick him up on, it was a great effort. 3 Quote
