Farty/Puffy exhaust Noise

Hi Folks,

Over the winter, I bought a standard, non-repackable exhaust from one of the nice chaps on here and fitted it. Having driven the car a few times now with the replacement exhaust fitted I must admit to being slightly disappointed with the noise. Not only is it noisier than the previous item (home-made road-legal Yamaha R6 can), bit it is distinctly farty/puffy like a blown silencer. It definitely doesn't have any leaks and the noise is coming from the end-pipe. Do any of you guys know if this is symptomatic of the packing in the silencer being past its best?

Hard to tell without hearing it, but if you're 100% sure there are no leaks, it could only be the packing...
