Andy Dawson
Simple question for a Sunday, my FW seems to have one extra light over what I might expect from the manual, and it came on today. But I've no idea what it's for. I'm guessing fuel (even though the tank is full) as temps and oil pressure were fine, and it's not the battery light. Is it a standard light? See picture, the bottom red one. Thanks all!
tisme
Handbrake on or low brake fluid ? Extra oil pressure light ?
Andy Dawson
Handbrake light over to the left, so not that. Could be oil but the gauge showed healthy pressure. Brake fluid - could be. I'll check as I think it has wires on the reservoir, thanks for the ideas
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
I've put my low oil pressure light roughly in that position. Handbrake seems to be to the left, on its own above the main beam and horn switches. i presume the bottom red light is ignition/charging? Fuel seems unlikely, not impossible though. Have a look at the engine's oil pressure sender, does it have two sepperate set of connections? If so one could be gauge and one a warning light, or of course it could have a sepperate warning light sender. (That's how I've done mine, so that I've a back up of the gauge were to fail). Alternatively, a fog lamp warning light? Trouble is, if it's coming on because something has gone wrong it could be anything! As the fault could bring it on regardless of whether it should be another thought would be some kind of engine fan warning light; not common, but I know one or two fit them. Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
Brake fluid and handbrake are normally the same light. IF it's a brake fluid light, it SHOULD have a test button somewhere on the dash. (That's why the warning is often combined with the handbrake, then pulling the hand brake on acts as a test switch to check the lamp works). Note quite a few Westfield brake fluid reservoir caps have their own test switch built in to the cap, justmpress down on the slightly raised round rubber membrane area and the warning lamp for low fluid should light. A failed oil pressure sender can make the light come on. (Well, certain types of failure, at least!)
Andy Dawson
Things to look into there, thanks. It did go off just before I got home - not sure if that helps. Have just checked brake fluid and coolant and they are both fine. Oil pressure gauge seemed to be working in that it was fluctuating depending on whether the engine was at idle or under load. Quinten
You could have both an oil pressure sender (for the gauge) and an oil pressure switch (for the light) fitted...
Welly Jen
It is the steering wheel missing warning light Jen
tisme
Of course a fool proof way of finding out is to take the dash off and trace the wires - or possibly take some Yoga lessons and lay upside down in the drivers footwell with a torch Or even, can you pull the light out of the dash and see what colour the wires are - may give you a clue to find them elsewhere?
