MacBook Pro speed

Can anyone recommend the best free download to speed up and clean my 4 year old Mac ( might even be 5 years old). It is slow booting up and seems to be slower in general

Not sure how easy it is or even if it's possible but swap the hard drive for an SSD (solid state drive) and do a clean install of the OS and it will seem like it's on crack!

Sounds way beyond my very limited IT knowledge and ability

I replaced my old white MacBook with a new MacBook Pro a couple of years ago because the old one was getting rather slow. Once I got the new one working I did as Chris has suggested and found the old MacBook transformed.

If you can't stretch to a HD change then it may still be worth doing a reinstall, do a search on reinstall MacBook Pro for instructions

I thought MACs never went wrong and were superior to everything else - LOL

I use ccleaner on my PC. Might be a Mac version. Cleans loads of crap off your system.

I just use the free version. Gets rid of temporary files and cleans up the registry etc.
