Kevin (Mr T) Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 With the inlet and exhaust manifold on my crossflow, I have recommended torque settings in the manual. The problem is that I struggle to get a spanner on some of the nuts, so I cannot possibly torque them. What is the procedure under these circumstances? Do more experienced people have some sort of muscle memory for various settings ? Quote
CraigHew Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 If you tighten the most accessible nut to the spec with a torque wrench then get your spanner on it to loosten it off a half-turn then re-tighten, you will get a feel of how tight it is. Not sure how else to approach it really. 2 Quote
Captain Colonial Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 When you say you struggle, what exactly do you mean? Are you using deep sockets or just the standard depth ones? If it was designed and assembled that way, there must be a correct tool for the job. Quote

I guess not designed on the exhaust side for the fancy 4 to 1 manifold that's fitted and designed on the inlet side for a single downdraft carb, not twin sidedrafts. Quote

I know what you mean, it's impossible to mount or remove my intake manifold if the carbs are attached to it. Even then, I have to use an extension bar with a mid-bar swivel Joint and deep sockets to reach the stud nuts. 1 Quote

Pistol Pete Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 Justdo them up reasonable, you will only be using a small spanner so as long as you are not hanging off the spanner you would struggle to over tighten them. 1 Quote
