Peddles and colum

Started stripping out the nasty parts of the engine bay prior to fitting the engine. Glad I did as the previous owner has used wood as a spacer everywhere even engine mounts. I found the steering column is welded in place and what seems to be a escort peddle box. Is there any way to lift the column easily?

Early cars used an escort pedal box, which you took to the factory and they cut and modded the clutch or throttle pedal ( cant remember which)  Sounds a bit dodgy with chocks of wood in places !! As for the column, I thought they were all just bolted in the usual 2 places , on the dash hoop and near the pedal box.

Thats what I thought looks like more modding to do

Am I right in thinking the early cars used Escort columns?

Yep, some of the early cars had a welded in Escort upper column, you can take the inner section out, but it tends to wipe out one of the bushes, IIRC from what those that have done it have said!

Cheers Dave I will order some bushes and see if I can get the column off

I took my column out to get a quick release boss welded on. Undo the UJ and pull the column up, the lower bush did come out but I managed to get it back in OK.
