S2T Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 A pal of mine is thinking of selling his Caterham for this http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/westfield/other-models/seight-v8-3-9-efi-factory-built-seiw/6163265 and was wondering if anyone on here knew the car and its history etc as he lives about 500 miles from Toybox. Whats the view on the price, personally for a 1998 car I think it is on the high side Quote
CraigHew Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Dont know the car but it seems a reasonable specification, and the photos do it justice too. Bit suprised it's only quoted as 200bhp, but reading between the lines that may be just a guess. Have looked at many many Toybox cars in the past, and whilst I've not seen any negative feedback or aspects about them, they do seem to ask top dollar for each of their offerings. That's not to say a deal couldn't be done. Quote
6carjon Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Looks a nice car and not seen a bad one from Toybox. 200bhp is a manufacturers claim (its from a Range Rover) and a bit optimistic but only in the same way as other major manufacturers such as Mazda MX5 are 130bhp? Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 The car looks nice condition wise, seems a cracking though not absolutely top spec, and should make an excellent tourer that probably wouldn't disgrace itself by any means on the odd track day. Price wise, it's always a tricky one, as a dealer sale, it's always going to be at the higher end as the dealer has to make a profit, cover warranty etc. What I'd also add, from having spoken to Toy Box, and lots of Westfield owners that have bought cars from him, and from following stuff on his Facebook pages, is that I'm quite impressed with how much work they seem to put into the cars they're selling; it seems for many of them at least, to extend to way, way, more than even a very thorough detailing. With considerable effort being put into the mechanical side too. With both maintenance and considered, careful upgrades often carried out, as well. That said, that's the sticker price, as Craig said, there may we'll be a deal there, too... 1 Quote

As an aside what spec Caterham is he thinking of selling ? Quote

DamperMan Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 (edited) There's not a real man alive who does not love the sound of a proper V8, Non of this flat plain BMW nonsense. I briefly had a project with a small block Chevy and after a bad day at work simply starting it made the world a better place, it was so good it offset the watching 1/2 a gallon of fuel fly down the Rochester quadrajet carb and the neighbours car alarm it would set off... Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 As much as I love the sound of some of the European V8's, the Americans do just get it so right so often! Theres something about the sound of some of the great US V8's that seems to simultaneously hit you in the gut and in the ear, making your very bones feel alive. The sound somehow bypasses all the millennia of evolution and connect directly to the prehistoric core of your brain. 1 Quote
Thrustyjust Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Looks nice but buying from a trader supposedly gives you warranties, but some arent worth the paper they are written on. Plenty of decent cars around if you are patient and probably 20% cheaper, which is a nice number should an issue arise. Quote
Steve (sdh2903) Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 There's another seight on their stock list. 7 years newer. Less miles and 1500 quid cheaper. Not efi and a little less spec but might be worth a look http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/westfield/other-models/seight-v8-3-5-seiw-stunning/6786591 Quote
Thrustyjust Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 With new engine . Needs a few bits to tidy up, but get for £10.5k and off you go. http://www.carsite.co.uk/used-car/westfield/seight/mtz_71741_43268438# Quote

Change those horrible yellow seat belts to black and also the inner wheels (are they Image split rims?) - lots of nice looking and expensive bits of kit on it. I think you could tone it down a bit but otherwise it certainly looks like it should go ! Quote
Thrustyjust Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 I did state tidy a bit in my post above , but shouldnt take much to make it look decent Quote
