Rory's Dad Posted February 4, 2017 Author Posted February 4, 2017 I was surprised that I got caught from the rear (ooer missus). I'm hoping it's more than 3 years since the last incident and can have a £60 speed awareness course as my special prize! 1 Quote

XTR2Turbo Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 The latest cameras can also instantly look up the type of vehicle and adjust speed threshold so be careful if you drive a van or lorry. David Quote

Deanspoors Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 Thought I'd maybe been caught doing 80mph along the motorway by the variable speed cameras, but reading from that website it looks like the cameras are only active when a variable speed limit is in place, fingers crossed, 8 years points free so far. No In the past I probably pushed the boundaries of speed limits but now I'm retired I stick to them like glue (with the possible exception of doing 80 ish on good, clear motorways that aren't "Smart" !) - I don't care anymore if that BMW driver behind me is getting irate - he can overtake and get caught on any cameras if he likes. The real struggle though is in the Westie simply because it's so easy to increase the speed unless your eyes are glued to the speedo - so yes, life doesn't get any easier - or enjoyable Quote

The Westfield is also simply too invisible and it is not the car I would choose to have an accident in either. Quote

Its simply too easy and fast. I was very lucky to not get pulled the other day as I most certainly was not going slow. Still think the copper was trying to get me to do something daft but he would have had me bang to rights for speeding. Lesson learnt. Quote

Oh dear...... more bad news I'm afraid...... it's not been sixty pounds for and age..... they now ask for nearer the one hundred pounds mark..... but they do provide tea/coffee and some biscuits.... (well in Worcestershire they do) but to be honest the course isn't that bad if you participate and have a sense of humour.... Nem..... Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 I got told I was a trouble maker on mine; after turning up in the Westfield, they asked for a driving license for ID, then the stroppy and very Liberal with a capital L instructor, got upset when it didn't have a photo on, and demanded photo ID. All I had on me with a photo was an MSA Speed License... (The second instructor, who was very good and was actually trying to teach us useful stuff, p******** himself laughing behind her back!) 4 Quote

Yes that's true on Smart Motorways, as long as the end of speed restriction is displayed or no signs whatsoever lit up. Still the chance the Mobile Police will catch you though, as usual. Quote
Mighty Mart Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 I was advised....off the record....that you would be extremely unlucky to be prosecuted for doing up to 80 on a motorway, unless driving like an idiot, tailgating for example. The reason why the police are against an increase in the motorway limit to say 80 is because that would put the actual speed up to 90 which is too fast for joe average to drive safely at.... of course cameras are different.... this was during my recent speed awareness course....and most informative it was too! Cost me £90, which is £110 pounds less than the fine.... yes, as, a standard fine is £200 for say 36 in a 30, which is what I was alleged to have done....I reckon it was more like 33 to 34, but I digress...the fine is however, 50% reduced for payment within 30 days which makes it £100. some useless info there anyway..... Mart. Quote
