Advice Required re Westfield Kit Car value.

Dear all,

Apologises if this is in the wrong place. My Step-Father unexpectedly died last week, in his garage he has a Westfield kit car which he built in the late 90's. It hasn't been used for around 9 years and I haven't got a clue as to whether it will even start. At the moment I do not know what engine is in it or any other specs (suspect its out of a Sierra as that rings a bell).

My mother's solicitor has asked for a basic valuation. Looking online that varies quite bit, I think this is probably lower end of the spectrum value wise........... Any advise on how to ascertain the rough value would be appreciated.

as you've already established it's going to be hard to value without details. Perhaps if you advised location a member may be willing to pop round and take a look or if you post some pics people will be better placed to advise.

Sorry to hear of the loss of a family member, my condolences. 

As for the value of a late 90's westfield that hasn't been used for 9 years, I would guess about £3000-4000, subject to condition. Given the timing of the inquiry I guess the solicitor is trying to sort out probate so these figures may suffice.

Sorry to hear of your loss. As for a valuation, if it is just for probate then stick down a low figure, but without knowing what spec, wide body narrow body engine type and size and condition it is hard to give accurate advice.

Where are you in the country as I am sure there will be someone local who can offer advice, or stick up some photographs of the car and engine bay and we will get you in a ball park.

I would say a shoddy one would make £1500-2000 and then up again depending on being a runner and mot tested.

You probably have a spread from £2k to £6k depending upon spec and condition.

If you can get some detailed photos on here including under the bonnet that will help.

If you confirm his name he may have been a member and previously posted on here with details of the car or build

Sorry for your loss, and my deep sympathies if you're having to deal with probate. Just nearing the end of the process myself, after 8 months.

As the others have said, without more detail, it's imposssible to give a realistic figure. I fully understand though that it's difficult when you get thrown in at the deep end like this, on top of everyone else.

If you can possibly manage it, arranging with a local member to come and have a look, will probably be the best solution to give you a guide. But, obviously that might be tricky in the circumstances.

Failing that, if you can take a few photos, ideally square on from left and right hand sides of the car, one from behind, and one from the front, one showing the dash board and one the rest of the cockpit/seats etc, and last but certainly not least, a few with the bonnet removed, showing the engine from both sides.

Post the photos up on the thread here, (it's quite easy now, but if you need help, just shout), and we'll try our best to work out what you've got, and what sort of value it is. 

For probate, an approximate, and low end value will usually suffice. But assuming you will need to dispose of the car, we can all try and give you a better idea of a sale value, and some detail to put in the adverts. Note on that front, many owners keep a detailed file somewhere of old invoices and paperwork. If you can find such a thing, that will help come sale time.

Note for probate purposes, the fact it hasn't run in sol long can be used to lever any value down. After that, you can either sell as is, or a local member may be able to help you find out if it at least starts and basically runs - which will improve the sale value.
