Pro's and con's of a stick on front number plate

I don't really want to put a full size front number plate on the car because it will block a large portion of the intake up and probably hit the ground.

For those with stick on plates have you had problems with MOT and/ or Police attention ?

Nope, never had a problem.  And my plate is at a 70% scale, so even more obvious it is not legal.  Guess I'll touch some wood now

I tried both but struggled to get the stick on one to lay flat without creasing (there must be a knack)

Just trimmed my standard sized plate to end 1/2inch before and after the letters - I'm lucky it's a Q reg and only six letters long - also hold it on below the grill with velcro so I remove it most of the time and keep it next to my seat for Mr Blobby (fell off guv.....)

Had a stick-on one for almost 14 years and never a comment from anyone. Haven't had an MoT for eighteen months though.

Asked my friendly MOT and he told me the number plate needed to be in the most vertical forward facing visible place at the front of the car.     Since there was no viable alternative he was happy with it being a sticker on the bonnet.    I was not going to argue with that

To answer the question

Pro's - you can get a full size & reflective number plate that does not keep getting knocked off or blocks access to radiator
           is not a small number plate that is certainly not legal
          

Cons - there is some debate as to their legality.

I to have had one for some time without issue, my original lasted a couple of months before being head butted by a small creature. I replaced with a full sized printed plate made from reflective vinyl with correct lettering and spacing. I did cut it down a little at the ends to remove as much excess white as possible then carefully stuck it to the front as near and as vertical as practical. 

Apart from replacing the original in the original location, which I knew meant I'd need to buy in bulk, I decided that the full sized stick on was probably the best solution. I thought better to have a plate that was a legal as possible in a position that could be defended than to have a plate was definitely not legal. As for having no plate, we drive memorable cars, you only need to have cop see you a couple of times for the "it's just fallen off sir" excuse to fall flat.

70% adhesive plate, never had an issue.

When I bought the car it had no front number plate at all and I ran it like that for 6 months!

The size I opted for is screwed to the car.  Full size letters, 75% size plate.

Mines the same size as Craig at 75% , but without the iffy spacing  It is velcro'd on, as didnt want to drill the nose. And made a couple of supporting brackets , also velcro'd under the nose, so any kind of impact will cause it to fall off rather than crack the nose.

The MOT tester at my local garage said as long as its refective then it ok with a stick on plate.

I must say i'm swaying towards a stick on, not full size, maybe 75%, but as has been mentioned getting it stick smoothly on a compound curve could cause problems. Full air flow is maintained and no danger of it being knocked off.
