I will hopefully soon be receieving my body work from the paint shop the final bits i need for the duratec upgrade and full strip and re build of my car that im doing.

Question is where does everyone have there ecu stored? And how have you got it held in?

Im just after suggestions as im not entirely sure on where i will place it and hold it in as before it wasnt held on to the car very well.

In answer to your question, currently it's on the floor in my garage!

However I've considered a few places but figure under the scuttle (where it's most likely to be kept dry) the best position. As per the manual many seem to fit on a flat panel that hinges down for access. I think I'll fix mine to a non moveable panel.

If you type in ECU plate you might some hits in the search function.

Mines riveted to the tunnel top under the scuttle, but when I got the car it was attached directly to the scuttle, engine bay side, with no adverse weather effects. I wouldn't recommend that though.

Hinge down panel in the passenger footwell is by far the "best" position I've come across so far. Easy to get at should diagnostic/engine mapping access to the serial port be required, yet protected from the heat and potential water, under the bonnet.

I've had them mounted on both the tunnel top behind the dash, and on the inside of the scuttle before now, both positions turned out to be awkward when anything needed to be done.

Some ecu's do come with mounting points built in, and will bolt in place, otherwise I use Industrial heavy duty Velcro; as long as the surfaces it's being stuck to are properly clean - especially aluminum, I even clean the spot with a scotchbrite pad, if necessary, and given a bit of time for the adhesive to "grip", it's very strong! Do make sure the wiring loom is  properly secured though, otherwise, the loom itself can be trying to lift the ecu, or twist it, which in turn puts strain on the plug and connections.

Temporary, honest.

I must admit mine is on the scuttle engine bay side - it's not come to any harm (yet touch wood) and it's held on by some decent 3M Velcro.

I have thought about moving it inside (on the favourite hinging tray under the passenger footwell) but I do find it useful where it is for plugging in the laptop and keeping the wiring loom "local" and tidy - the only wires that go inside are for the rev counter and shift light.
