TAFKARM Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 I'm lucky to have a reasonable sized garage free from my missus crap. The car lives in there along with my tools etc. Garden stuff is in there too, but this will all be going in the new shed when it gets delivered this week (and I've erected it, if anyone wants to help, let me know). Ive got a rapidly diminishing stock of wood on one side and a pile of pallets on the other that aren't a permanent feature just there until I cut them up. Ive got racking across the back wall and utilise the roof space where I can for ladders and some bulkier car spares. It's a mess though and I can never find anything I need - how do you guys decide what old bits are worth keeping and what to throw away? How do you organise them? What about all the miscellaneous screws bolts nuts clips etc etc etc? 1 Quote

You've seen my garage which is tiny so space is at a massive premium, having your hammers/wrenches/saws to hand is both useful and good on space saving. All good points mentioned so far, lint bins for the wall are good for sorting out the odds and sods. A false floor would be ideal for wood storage but may be difficult to achieve given the width between wall and joist? What about putting sections in between the current wood pile so you can safely stack higher and take up less room? I've used pinterest quite a bit for these types of ideas, theres some impressive stuff on there that I've done and have improved space big time. I find I have to be ruthless with things unfortunatley, my moto is I'd rather have a bit of space and not waste time sorting through crap than keep everything. If that means I have to buy some things again then so be it, this is clearly price dependant. Oh and that is one awesome sized garage Russ, I am very jealous!! Quote

JohnCh Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 I am attempting to become more organized by using clear plastic storage bins of various sizes to group things together by logical type (e.g. Westfield Electrical, Painting Supplies, Lawnmower Parts). I'm fortunate to have a very large garage, but the downside to space is the slippery slope to becoming a hoarder. Sometimes I'm not sure if it's more frustrating when I can't find something, or coming across an item and asking myself "what the heck is this? It certainly looks important, but..." Hopefully labelled plastic bins will help. If you aren't familiar with the garagejournal.com, it's well worth a visit to their forum.
