I am thinking about buying a small scooter/motorcycle to take on back of motorhome

I passed my full bike test in 1964and now have a driving licence with Cat A, B,BE,B1,C1,C1E and D1E

Does the cat A cover me for any size of engine etc

I'm in the same boat Terry, I'm 99.9% certain you can drive any size of motorbike.

See https://www.gov.uk/driving-licence-categories

The categories have changed. My very old driving licence states I can drive cat A & E which are shown on the document to be A--any vehicle (up to 7.5 tons) excluding a motorbike (group D) but including group E Moped.

Probably best to check with DVLA. I recall a motorcycle policeman telling a Watchdog type program that he had lost his right to ride his motorbike when he had a driving licence renewal and DVLA messed up the categories missing out the motorbike. He couldn't get DVLA to correct their error and had to resit his motorbike test.

Surely only in Britain.

You could buy a Honda 1000RR Terry and use it for spares when your race car breaks but use it until then as a motorbike

It would be a bit heavy to fit on the back of the Motorhome!!

I have full bike licence and looks like "A" is the one that equates to any bike.

I was only 16 and doing a paper job after school. Main income was from a rock group I played in for 2 years at weekends in pubs, clubs and youth clubs!

My first wage at 18 was £9 per week !!!!!!
