Car Insurance Woes

My Westy is insured with a well known kit car insurer. On 5th November I informed them that my Westy was being stored in a specialised storage unit whilst some building work was carried out at home. I paid just over £60 for the privilege which would take me to the expiration of the policy in May 2017 with the proviso that I would let them know as and when the car returned home.

Having just done that, they tell me that no refund is due! I pointed out that, as the extra risk was only for two months out of seven, surely something should be due. Apparently not as there are unspecified mid-term change charges. Strange how it adds up to exactly the £62.23 I paid (which itself was 30% of the original premium).

I suggested she went away to give it some more thought as I will definitely be taking my business elsewhere come renewal time.

I'm not holding my breath......

Nearly as bad as having to move a number plate with insurance admin fees. Remove plate for car to sell £35 admin. Buy new car await docs and then replace private plate , another £35 . So, thats £70 for not a lot. At least if your car went up in flames, you'd get paid out. Insurance on our cars are pretty minimal, so sometimes 'additions' cost the insurance company admin costs, which can seem excessive. £30 a month is what I pay for a family hatchback a month.
