Not a new member - but a new SEight!!

Managed to get a deal done on a lovely black SEight last night. Car is to be delivered next Tues / Weds to my house - just in time for Christmas.......

Only a few niggles I will need to look at:

  1. Knuckles rest against dash in 1st - a pet hate of mine in Westy's is when the gearstick is too far forward, this is bordering a problem for me, but unlikely to be easy to sort I guess.
  2. Handbrake sits at 90deg when on - simple adjustment needed.
  3. There is some very minor rust around the front wishbones - winter tidy up job for me.
  4. Biggest issue - throttle is way over sensitive!!  Resting your foot on the pedal gives about 90% throttle, the next 3" of travel add little more.

Other than these bits, she's in fantastic condition with all paperwork proving the RPi pedigree and rolling road printout, all original build receipts etc.

Hoping it's a good one and I don't get any nasty surprises.... Looking forward to frightening passengers, pedestrians, and probably myself!!

I don't know how easy it is to remove the gear lever, but if you can get it off it should be easy to increase the backwards bend, with the application of heat and a suitable piece of rod to use as a lever whilst holding the gear lever in a large vice.

As Stephen says, should be an easy fix that one so long as you can get the gear stick out easily enough. If you can't heat and bend (which if you have any plastic or rubber bushings in the shifter pivot mechanism you may not), you could always cut it down then bend a suitable piece of bar to the required angle (or angles if you prefer an S shaped double bend) and then get it welded on in place of the old one. Just be sure to leave sufficient length to weld to!

Throttle wise, sounds like you have an unbalanced travel between pedal and throttle. You'll need to see if you can match the travel of the throttle to the pedal, either by altering the pivot point on the pedal or the throttle connection pivot point/lever length. Ideally you want the travel to match so that at 50% pedal travel throttle is at 50%. I have no idea what system you have currently connecting the throttle to the throttle cable, perhaps if you put up a photo we might be able to help more.

Bit of an update on the gearstick issue of my knuckles scraping the dash.

I made a simple adjustment using a small drilled plate, rather than bolting the lever directly - effectively pulling the gearstick about 25mm away from the dash without causing any interference issues when shifting into 2nd or 4th.  Took all of about 30mins!

Will have to post separately about the throttle issue which I am struggling to sort.......

Sorted the handbrake issue as well.  Fitted some strong, stainless steel return springs on the caliper end of the cables - a solution posted on here I found with some digging.  Adjusted the tension through the transmission tunnel access hole and hey presto - good as new!!
