Do you want one with creature comforts (carpets/upholstered seats/heater/hood/etc) or a track day special (none of the above!). You may not be sure yet so take your time in making up your mind. Some people buy one car and then turn it into another which is often time consuming and expensive! thanks dad i know i could rely on you ....... 48 minutes ago, AdamR said: Agreed - and same thing with live axle. I've recently got a 1.8 Zetec live axle car as my 3rd Westy and 5th kit car, it's a very good bit of kit... The one on eBay looks good value. I bought the first Westy I saw and it turned out to be a very good one, so it can happen. Welcome, and enjoy your new toy That's not the price unfortunately, that was the bidding that did not make reserve. It would already be in my the garage if that was the price. 1 Quote

TAFKARM Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Something doesn't add up about that eBay car... --- Very quick and agile Westfield Seven built in 2010 and powered by an extremely desirable 1.8 litre Ford Zetec power plant mated to a straight cut gearbox with Quaife quick shift. Only 2 owners from you and with only 778 miles. This is a seriously quick road or track car. Since new has never had a track day just summer day cruising. 13 inch Minilight alloy wheels with super stick Avon rubber. --- Not that a car that s been tracked would put me off at all (I mean look at mine!!) but it does seem an odd spec to me. Note the roll bar, wasnt the small hoop on top added by a lot of the sprinters to comply with the MSA regs without having to go full cage? Quote

A straight cur gearbox even for me (deaf head) would drive me bonkers after very few miles. 37 minutes ago, RussH said: Not that a car that s been tracked would put me off at all I agree, it's a shake down test, if it has any weak points they will become evident on track. Depends - my car has a 'straight cut box' in it, but it turned out to only be the first 3 gears. So cruising in 4th is nice and quiet, yet you get the theatrical whine when you're pressing on - which is great 1 Quote

(I saw this in the paperwork). The guy does not know a great deal about cars. He bought it as he liked the look of it and it went well, He said he always wanted a westy. He maintained it at his garage, serviced it twice (each year). He did not get to drive it as much as he thought he would, so its time to move it on. Nice guy, I honestly don't think he is trying to hide anything his end. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Ah, glad you gave us that info about the current owner, as the details and the car don't really match. That doesn't mean it's a bad car, or necessarily dodgy, just that the original sum up of the car by whoever built it has got lost. I would guess it's been sprinted, or possibly raced - it bears all the hall marks, yellow tape on battery neutral cable, extended roll bar, straight cut four speed box, brake bias set up. It's got a non standard dash, less common (for it's age) 8k rev counter, extra warning lights etc. plus a scoop/bulge on the bonnet that seems to do nothing in it's current configuration. It has the look of a competition car that's been partially de-specced and tidied up for selling on at some point. I stress, this doesn't make it a bad car, but as the precise history has got lost with time, nor is it a case of pointing fingers at anyone. It happens a lot, as cars move pass through the hands of less technical owners; it would need careful checking over though, the milage may be genuine, but track miles, or it may have had a new speedo at some point... 1 Quote
Thrustyjust Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Dave the mileage seems about right according to the DVLA MOT history, but shows its lack of activity with perished rubber items as advisories and tyres cracking. 1 Quote
Paul Morcom Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Also tyre set up looks a bit strange and probably done by somebody who knows nothing about tyres and was given some to put on it. But at that mileage you would not expect to use many tyres; unless it was being hammered on a track. Fronts are Avon ACB10 - crossplys Rears are Avon ZZs - radials You do not mix the two types of tyre! Quote
SootySport Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Another from Essex. Glad you got your man maths calculation right. Never used the wet weather gear on my car, didn't want to suffer from dislocations of my joints, besides it's horrid with a roof on a Westfield. Quote
