With my engine out for a box-swap right now and pants weather, followed by post-Xmas fitting of various components I (hope) to be getting, I'm thinking that I'll be putting the car on SORN for Jan & Feb and hope to be out again in March.

Question is: under the new system, I use the Direct Debit £20 a month payment method - so if I SORN it today, I assume I can still use the car until the end of the month, right? Or do I need to wait until the end of the month to SORN it?

Might take her out for a test drive before the end of the month to try out the new box if I manage to get the engine back in soon, so want to have the option available.

I think it actually becomes SORN when you do it, there does not seem to be an option to use a future date. Rubbish really, you should be able to put a date from.

 

When I did it last year I did it on the last but one day before the end of the month and realized I could then not use it even if I wanted to.

I believe you can but only by post using a V890 form and a cover letter but this needs verification.

Yes, my experience is that if you do it online, it will take immediate effect.  No future date.
