Torqueing up drive shafts

Recommended Posts

I'm a first time builder (FW kit) 5 weeks into my build.  Drive shafts are in place but I have a problem applying a torque wrench to the crown nuts (alan key type).   I have a bit to fit the nuts which needs the attachment of a reducer to fit the half inch stud on the wrench.   I need to tighten up to 35 ft/lb but with the addition of the recucer and the pin to fit the nuts do I need to vary the wrench setting to more or less of the required setting?

Also are there any Westfield builders local to Leicester - would be useful to have a local contact.

look forward to hearing from the group in due course..

The adapter doesn't affect the torque value. I had to use a 1/4" to 3/8" to 1/2" adapter with my torque wrench. Just wait until you try to torque up the prop shaft flange bolts. Don't forget to clean the threads and loctite them. I'd also paint mark them to indicate they're torqued.

I had to cut down an allen key socket in length and use a small spanner to turn it! Enjoy your build!

Those are cap head bolts and all you need to do is apply loctite ( 243 I think) and torque up
