Prepping my garage

Painting the garage floor, but which colour?

I've got white bodywork on order so should I try to tone it with a grey, or go opposite with a blue or red?

Am also looking at some rubberised tiles to go over the top while building.

I went for grey in my recent garage build. The last one I had red and it showed up everything. The grey looks "cleaner" even when covered in crap.

Red hides the bloodied knuckles . I painted mine grey in the past and now have a rubber floor in grey down. So, for me grey works well.

I've painted mine grey and covered it with soft 'chequer plate' style tiles from Costco. They are 2ft square and were about a £1.00 each when I bought them. If you go that route, buy them in one go as they seem to vary in size from batch to batch and don't interlock so well. Costco also sell a one piece chequer plate style sheet in a roll that will cover a single garage.

I have some of the foam checker it's lovely to kneel on walk. It warm to touch, etc .. but hot drilling swarth sticks to it.. Weld splatter makes holes in it. It didn't seam to burn. I think it's worth putting something over it for any of the above jobs. I've not parked a car in it to know if it permently deforms. Or how stable a trolley jack would be.... I used grey paint. Just found that it took much much longer to dry than expected. I have to much stuff so had to do the front of the garage.. Wait, move the crap to the front then to the back. Also where I'd spilled stuff in the past the adhesion was not great. It really helps with mopping up stuff. Also there's no conCrete dust to sweep up or lie in :)

I will paint mine one day but it's on old stone garage and floor far from ideal for paint - I use those interlocking foam tiles from Costco and they're great - even better is that they insulate the car from the damp that always appears in winter. I've used car jacks and stands on them and they bounce back. Well worth it and I'd even use them on my dream painted (light grey) concrete floor when I win the lottery !!  :)

I painted a concrete garage floor grey.  I used a two part epoxy paint which seemed to work well (the fumes were great too!) and it looked really smart.  Old carpet provides the "comfort" for working on the car.

Just moved house so now back to bare concrete!

Some great points there guys, thanks.

I did promise the wife that if i built a car, then she could choose the colour.  However I can't quite stretch to include a spray job in the specific venom green that she wants.

However, i've said that if she can find a floor paint in that colour, i'll use it.  So....grey it is then  :)

"venom green" - cripes, must avoid your wife ......... :d

1 inch Rubber Horse Matting, keeps it warmer in the winter as well  :)  :t-up:
